Yeah, great, 2% of the X86 market, sure we'll port our software to OSX - Samo Korosec
STEVE JOBS was being as enigmatic as ever when asked if Apple would enter the increasingly cut-throat netbook market during a recent financial conference call.
When asked whether the Cupertino company would ever make a low-cost computer, Jobs replied, "We don't know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk."
But when pushed further, and asked whether Apple would make a netbook, he said that the company was taking a "wait and see" stance. He went on to suggest that, if the time was ever right for Apple to move into the netbook arena, the company had "some pretty interesting ideas".
A NYT Bog revealed that a mole within an unnamed web search company, possibly - or possibly not - beginning with G, had spotted an unidentified Apple hardware platform connecting with the Interweb. The screen size of the device put it, " somewhere between an Iphone and a Macbook".
As no such beast currently exists, we can only add to the wildly circulating rumours that Jobs' Mob already has a netbook device µ
The only reason it would be junk at $500 is because you pay $400 over the odds for an apple. Leaving them with only $100 left to play with. Expect it to be the worlds most expensive, under connected netbook.
Know how to build a sub $1000 computer that is a piece of junk.
...or a very expensive multitouch mini-tablet.
Jobs: "We don't know how to build a sub-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk."

Hell, Steve-o, your company doesn't know how to build an over-$500 computer that is not a piece of junk.

Only reason your fruity company still exists is that there is a niche of technology challenged dweebs who like pretty pictures.
Something bigger than an Iphone but smaler than a Netbook. Yes please I ' ll have one... True pocketable web access and none of that music nonsense to muck up the interface.
It is.... Apple Newton and it's connected to the Internet with a V92 modem... Since 15 years... The iphone bill... the horror...
Someone PLEASE tell me what the hell
a 'Mac' is?
I believe a "Mac" is a type of hamburger...
Apple premiums are just too high. I have to say, the < $500 Acer Aspire One is a damn good netbook, I just got one today and I love it, proving that Apple just plain charges too much for their computers. I'd bet that if they quit charging those damn premium prices and made a sub-$500 netbook similar to the Eee or the Aspire One it would fly off the shelves.
So this Steve Jobs guy makes Mac Hamburgers that cost thousands? is he some kind of famous chef?

So who pays that much when you could get another hamburger just as good for WAY less??

And whys he on a tech site then??! this is food related stuff...
They couldn't even make a sub-500$ hamburger that is not a piece of junk-food.
I'm quite sure that you know that “Mac” is a widely used abbreviation for “Macintosh” ... what you might not know is that “Mac” is also a registered trademark by Apple:

The iPod Touch is a computer. It costs less than five hundred of your thalers.

Ergo, it is a piece of junk.
The basic problem is that Apple has never been good at low-margin products. Netbooks are now the fastest-growing segment of the PC market. So Apple's inability to compete will see its market share slide even lower than the 3% or so it's been over the last decade.
The unindentified "Mac" is probably nothing more than a netbook running a hacked copy of OSX. There are many videos of hackintosh netbooks on Youtube.
