SGI forces Dell to testify in AMD case

Now hear ye, hear ye
Wed Dec 19 2007, 09:34

SILICON GRAPHICS (SGI) has served a subpoena on Dell to force it to testify in its law suit against ATI, which it claims breaches its patents with the Radeon and FireGL graphics chips.

Dell had objected to being called as a witness, but SGI said that after lawyer talked unto lawyer, but the learned fiends failed to come to a conclusion satisfactory to both parties.

Dell has dished out some documents to SGI but hasn't yet produced a witness to testify.

SGI started the case against ATI in 2006, alleging that 3D kit breach its patents. The discovery phase of this lawsuit is over, so SGI wants to force Dell to produce a mister or a missus to testify. µ

sad...

Why is SGI a bankrupt company today?
Why is SGI suing ATI but not Nvidia?

Answer - Microsoft got then-CEO Rick Belluzzo to give away SGI's crown jewels graphics patents and graphics engineering team to Nvidia for free... Belluzzo's last act before jumping ship to Microsoft. One more "dirty trick" in the Microsoft portfolio.
