Virtualisation for Mac OS X tips up
VIRTUALISATION company, Parallels has made available the first app to allow virtualisation of the Mac OS X operating system on Intel Mac servers.
Parallel’s Server for Mac has been in the works for over a year now, but has still managed to pip Vmware’s Fusion to the post.
Like most other virtualisation softwares, Parallels’ makes use of hypervisor technology, the thin layer of software which lies between the Primary OS and the host computer. Because Parallels’ hypervisor technology can purportedly run on any Intel powered Apple hardware running OS X Leopard Server, those using the fruity toymaker’s Xserver and Mac Pro hardware will now be able to set up their very own virtual machines (VM).
Back in November 2007, Apple conceded to allow its Mac OS X Server 10.5 Leopard Operating System to run on a VM, as long as each VM had a discrete licence and that the server hardware running on it was made by Apple.
But now, using Parallels’ software, which costs half a grand per server, Intel Mac users can run Windows virtual machines on top of their Mac OS X.
Vmware is now having to play catch up to Parallels, and hopes to release its Fusion 2.0 software very soon indeed. µ

Did I missing something about the article? Sun's new acquisition, VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org), already runs on Intel MacOS X, and will happily run Windows instances.
Gawd, it makes me cringe just thinking about it. Bloated OS running on bloated OS, ad nauseum.

Wouldn't a properly implemented OS provide the same benefits efficiently?
Maybe this will help to improve the Leopard OSX version that can run on a Windows machine's VM Ware virtual machine?

B) the first solution allowing you to virtualize OS X (Server)

Then you will be very excited to know that Parallels Server will also run on the Vole, Linux, and Bare Metal offerings. OS X only on Fruit flavored hardware though for now :)
