Google plans huge data centre

$600 million server farm

THE SEARCH engine outfit that is known as Google is planning to splash out $600 million on a data centre in North Carolina.

According to Reuters, the server farm will hire 210 people in an area which has been hit by closures in the furniture and textile industrys.

The move has been touted by Governor Mike Easley as being a method of providing hundreds of good paying, knowledge based jobs.

The state gave Google $4.8 million worth of incentive package to start the project and could end up giving it $100 million to stay in the region.
