Microsoft Intellipoint Mouse reviewed

Review Cheap, breaks easily
Tue Apr 19 2005, 00:19
MICROSOFT'S Intellipoint mouse is a simple mouse with a wheel. I like wheels and I prefer cheap mice. In PC World a couple of weeks ago I bought the cheapest mouse on offer - a decent-enough-looking little rodent, the PC Line PCL BO1. That developed a wee fault after a couple of weeks, a sort of over clicking on the left button which meant I double clicked too often when I only wanted to single click.

I figured it was my fault for being a cheapskate. So last week I was back in PC World and splashed out an extra couple of quid to buy a Microsoft Intellipoint Mouse. It was cheap, but not as cheap as the PC Line number.

It was fine, it always did fit my hand nicely, though the wheel is a bit clanky.

Anyhow, today the wheel stopped working. In a vain attempt to fix the problem I installed the software that came with it, Intellipoint 4.1 it's called. This also encouraged me to register with Microsoft, which I did for a change, discovering that I had to have a Microsoft Passport in order to do so. Bit of a rum do that, but I complied like a good little consumer.

The result? The wheel's still not working.

At this rate I'll be buying a mouse a week, just to keep on surfing and writing and gaming and enjoying all the benefits that Microsoft lays before our eyes, having invented the Interweb and the operating system and windows to keep the rain out and everything.

So now, I've got to travel down to PC World again, quibble and argue about both poxy rodents (I might as well dangle the previous poxy bit of plastic in front of the dazed eyes of the dizzy salesfolk down there) and see what I can salvage from this sorry situation.

Of course, that means taking time out from a bursting, busy schedule, losing income or good quality family time just because some eejit can't make a mouse that works properly for more than a few hours. Bastard. ยต
