Gecube launches "fastest" AGP, DX10 board to come

CeBIT 007 Life in the old slot yet

GECUBE DEMONSTRATED what it claims to be the fastest AGP board to date, the GC-HX195XTGA3-D3.

This board is based on a fully-fledged R580+ GPU, marrketed as the Radeon X1950XT. However, the GPU clock has been changed from default 625MHz to 648MHz - the default clock of the X1950XTX. ATI Overdrive is supported, and this option in the Catalyst driver will increase clock all the way to 675MHz. Memory is not 512MB GDDR4, which is what the X1950XTX has - but rather 256MB of GDDR3 memory. Product manager Jeff Fu saud the firm "will not abandon AGP users".

We asked about the continuing contraction of the AGP market, but were told that the demand for AGP is still very strong. In fact, AGP accounts for the lion's share of some markets.

So for those users that want a AGP perfromance part this company will offer DirectX 10 boards based on RV610 and RV630. In fact, there will even be an overclocked version of the RV630XT, which could even end up cooled by a combined heat-pipe peltier cooler.

Not the fastest..

The AGP 3850 would outclass this seeing as it is 2 generations up on it.
