Intel Itanium chieftain defects to AMD

Sets up rival camp at Fort Collins
Tuesday, 28 March 2006, 10:05
THE DIRECTOR of Itanium circuits and technology, Sam Naffziger, has been poached by AMD to work on alternative server designs.

According to Real World Tech, Naffziger, who also is an Intel "Fellow", was the brains behind dual core Itanium chip Montecito. He fled the Intel coop to join AMD at the beginning of this month and what's worse is setting up camp at Fort Collins, where Intel's Itanium design centre is located.

Intel borged the Fort Collins centre from HP. µ
