AMD, Xerox lauded for reducing greenhouse gases

Intel wins water efficiency award

AMD, XEROX and Intel have won praise from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and cut water usage.

Both AMD and Xerox won a Climate Leaders award at an EPA conference in Colorado on Tuesday for achieving their long-term greenhouse gas reduction goals, and committing to implement further reductions.

Between 2002 and 2006, AMD managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 53 percent per production unit, and has now pledged to further reduce emissions by 33 percent by 2010.

Over the same period, Xerox also reduced its emissions by 18 percent, and is now committed to increasing that to 25 percent by 2012, the EPA said in a statement.

Intel was also singled out for praise, winning a Water Efficiency Leader award for its success in conserving some four million gallons of water a day at its Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona.

The chip giant was one of six winners of the award.

"We applaud these winners for saving water, energy and money for America's families and communities," said the EPA's assistant administrator for water, Benjamin Grumbles. "They're proving innovative technology and environmental stewardship can help conserve our country's greatest liquid asset."

The EPA Climate Leaders programme is a partnership between government and industry which aims to help companies reduce their impact on the environment by setting aggressive targets for reducing greenhouse gases.

The Water Efficiency Leader awards are open to any business, community or individual who can demonstrate a significant reduction in the demand for li mited water resources. ยต

Please tell me...

...that you made up the bit about "our country's greatest liquid asset". This is too laughable to be true.

If the US have no greater liquid asset than chlorified tap water, then I am really sorry for them.

What about Beer? Wine? Balsamico vinegar? Jack Daniels? any other liquid assets?
