Screen real estate

Why do I need to sacrifice screen real estate for a button replacement? I already have a persistent notification bar at the top of by browser's screen, I don't want a persistent action bar at the bottom.

More Apple baiting?

Seems like they are copying an Apple method just to bait them and to hell with what users want.

no

no, I don't want a "action bar" I want (and am coining the term) a "Menu bar" it's like an action bar but it's a menu, it's like a menu but it's a bar. Kinda like a good place to get a drink, dinner and some action :P

Does the user get a say?

We are Android users, not iPhone users. We like menus, we like options, we like choice. If I wanted a phone without menus, I'd buy an iPhone. It's a worthy device and 'just works' most of the time. However, I chose android because I like to be able to fiddle with every tiny option to make it work every time.
Why are people so scared of menus anyway?
