When you factor in the actual use speeds rather than the 'theoretical' advertised maximum speeds that are used by ISPs, the playing field skews quite a bit from what is reported.
The average actual use speed of my "8 meg" dsl at my house in London is 2.4 mbps. The actual use speed of my "1.5 mbps" dsl at my house in Texas is 400 kps.
Neither one is even close to half of what seed the ISPs are claiming, and this is a regular occurrence across the board for all ISPs.

Iirc they only worked up to around 2Mbps.
Anyway loving my 16Mbps BT connection in the centre of old rural Norwich.
