The device is not subscription based from what I can find out.

There is a very small subset of functionality (an iPhone client to stream from the device across the internet to the iPhone) that does require a subscription, but for basic use as a media server, time machine backup device etc there is no subscription required.

This unit is bulls**t. You have to pay a monthly subsrciption for the software.

Flush this unit down the crapper and lets get on with it.
