Iphone 4.1 does not fix problem!!

I upgraded to 4.1 this morning hoping to fix bluetooth problems of my IPHONE4 - Duh! The same problem!! No fix....My Iphone4 still refuses to recognize my JABRA 3030 stereo headset, timing wheel goes on spinning and draining my battery. The hardware spinning like a wind mill is just like the spin " The proximity sensor on 4.1 is far more reliable....etc". Can anyone (even almighty spinning Apple) fix a hardware issue with spin alone? Talk loud enough the problem will go away?

possible workaround!

This workaround is working so well for me I just wanted to repost it with additions.

I think I may have found a temporary solution to our problem while we wait for a real fix from Apple.

Once you start a call, hit the home button and pull something else up on the screen like a photo so that if the screen comes back on it doesn't have options like END CALL or FACE TIME on the screen to accidentally hit. The calculator may be another good choice as the only way to get it off the screen is to hit the home button.

Just wanted to add to this. As soon as you initiate a call you can double click the home button to bring up recent items and then just hit the photos or whatever you were using as a quick shortcut. It will take you right back to whatever the last photo you had up and you can go to your call.

You can also use the double click on the home button while you are on the call in the photo app to view recents and then toggle between the phone app and the photo app if you need to get back to the call screen.

We definitely shouldn't have to do this but for people that absolutely need their phone without headphones etc.. this was a great suggestion!

This is working for me so far at least as a work around.

thanks djkidkaz!

all of the proximity sensors r the same

Every iphone 4 is the same as far as hardware. I have the proximity sensor problem because i relax when i talk on the phone & my face moves away from the sensor. The ones not experiencing this problem is because they put the phone to their ear and hold it there...guarantee all the iphone 4's are doing the same thing...this phone will either be fixed by software or be recalled..its that bad..wait.no one has talked about the wacky blue tooth problems i had..

APPIC FAIL

Honestly, the fact that so many people out there would believe that a software fix would help assist with flawed hardware design (both the antenna AND the proximity sensor, et al)...we are an intelligent country, yes we are! ***sound of pinching baby cheeks here***

And to think that so many people would support Apple, run by a dictator who curtly waves away polite naysayers with "non-issue" responses. Honestly, that was the clincher for me returning my iPhone 4. But this blind allegiance to a completely inappropriate CEO response is sickening. Apple Fanboy powers, ACTIVATE!! Form of...a BLIND ELEPHANT!!! I honestly love the iPhone, it's the single greatest techtoy I've ever owned, and it's helped me to be REMARKABLY productive and connected both at and away from home...but the 3GS is where good functionality stopped, so that's where I'm staying.

I tried to call the AT&T store before returning it, but unfortunately, I was holding the iPhone 4 in my left hand. You know the rest...

What the hell APPLE!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!! This phone is useless to me now, i want my money back!!!! 1st we hold the phone wrong and what the excuse for this issue? we hold the phone to close to our face!?

Holy FUD

Mine works flawlessly, which means that every unit is a perfect piece of artwork slowly and carefully handcrafted by Jobs himself.

Anyone that tells different should be perpetually disallowed to enjoy the wonders of Apple gifts from heaven, including his children and grandchildren, while watching faithful consumers rejoice on their godsend devices.

I have a 3G with OS 4.0 and a new iphone 4 and do not have this problem on either phone...so it can not be soft ware as I downloaded OS 4 for my old phone B4 I bought the new one 2 days ago. Maybe an intermittent assembly problem. Sensible thing to do is stop wasting time complaining and take it back to the shop, sh%$# happens to the best and worst of any products.

@JeeBee 4 350

Any serious complaint-manager will tell you that for every customer actually complaining, roughly 10 others will not. In addition, as has already been mentioned, the website is only a small part of the customer base. The lots that actually use a forum etc. are already a minority! Apple has problem, and they know it. But as usual, denial is their first defence. It isn't that apple has more problems than other phone-manufacturers, but unlike others they claim perfection and divinity. If you claim perfection, better deliver on it.

It's great

I have had no problem with mine. I guess I must be one of the lucky ones.

I upgraded from the 3G to the iPhone 4 and everything is better. Looks, battery life, the speed, hardware, improved reception.

In answering someone's question to at what distance does the sensor activate, about 1 inch for me. The screen goes blank at about 1 inch. The screen then does not respond to any touches.

Still waiting for mine...

I've still got one on order. Bank account already zero, buying on credit :)

I've almost cancelled a time or two from the problems I've read about, but figure most of these issues are software based. I do plan to get a cover for it to protect it and which should remedy the antenna issue. So overall I think all the problems are either fixed or fixable. ...Still waiting for it to arrive though...

"bank account empty"

I've heard there are some dodgy eastern European guys who have an app for that...

Mine Works Great

Sensor works, antenna works, no yellow screen, bank account empty.

I'm more than happy with the iPhone 4. Even with issues it's better than any phone on the market...and I'm a Microsoft honk!

@JeeBee

What a ridiculous statement. It's not "350 out of the millions sold", it's "350 people who have the problem happened to go online to complain about it and happened to wind up on that one thread on the Apple forums". That implies a huge number who have the problem but have not bothered to complain about it, or complained in other arenas.

It's not the phone

I just installed iOS4 on my 3G and it does the same thing. It is a software problem, not a hardware problem.

@iPhoney

umm, back to reality.... if it is disabled then your face is going to interact with your iPhone when you press the device against it.

To mitigate the problem, first sit inside your expensive v2.53 iTemple & beg for another example of how you should be operating your devices.

Users who bothered to post, most average people would go to a store for help or suffer through as Steve Jobs made it that way.

350 posts!!! 350!!!!

So of the 1.7 million iPhones that were sold, we have up to 350 people with problems.

Given the bath-tub model of device failure, most that will fail should fail in the first month, or (hopefully) after your mobile contract is over.

We're looking at a tiny tiny failure rate here. Statistically insignificant.

Maybe it's a sign that there are some build issues, or poor assembly, or poor QA. Let's wait and see how many more cases occur.

Please help!

I have a question for everybody that reads this forum regardless of whether you have the problem or not. Please help us and answer this even IF YOU DO NOT have the proximity problem!!! Does ANYBODY have an “iPhone 4″ that has a proximity sensor that activates further away than 3/4 to 1 3/4 of an inch away from the phone? The 3GS and previous models seemed to have an activate range of about 2 inches away. Please let us know.

The reason that I am asking is that if NOBODY has a phone that has a better range than the average of 1 inch then it won’t matter how many times I go to exchange my phone because it won’t be fixed until they update the software or firmware or in worst case do a recall.

I would like to try and find out if this problem is only on some iPhone 4s or if it is all of them and only some of us that use the phone on our ear are having the problem and others are not because of bluetooth headsets etc. and the problem would not affect those users.
