Look at Google Social Search

Everyone that also uses Google: There's another HUGE privacy flaw you probably don't know about. Google Social Search releases the names of your chat contacts to everyone you know, and you can't opt out of it.

Google Social Search reveals all of your chat contacts to each other, and there is no way to opt out even if you DON'T HAVE A GOOGLE PROFILE. If you thought buzz was bad, at least you could opt out of that. To get out of this, you have to stop using Google Chat altogether.

Look at http://www.google.com/s2/search/social to see what is revealed about you.

No issues with FaceBook privacy settings on my part

I have always had a profound aversion for all this "social site" hoopla.
I don't need a "service" to gather my data under the pretext of letting me stay in contact with my friends - I have email and phone numbers for that.

Bait and Switch

Facebook was created when I was in first year university. It was exclusive to individuals who had a valid e-mail address from an exclusive group of US and Canadian schools. The privacy agreement at that time was clear and conservative (because the idea is being sold to university students… huge skeptics). That was the agreement I signed up for; no mandatory public posting of anything (profile pictures and networks)! Facebook has since evolved into a mainstream mess. Facebook has continually manipulated their privacy agreement for corporate interest, under the pretence of broad false assumptions that these changes are user driven. In addition, once you are in the system you cannot simply ‘walk away’ without ramifications. Facebook has a control over something very dear to us all; a method to inexpensively sustain and re-kindle relationships with people abroad. At no point did I agree to publically display my display picture or my user networks. Facebook has been granted immense power and because their interests are solely corporate driven, Facebook needs a leash.

Facebook privacy(NOT)Be warned

I have to say that yes there is no privacy with facebook. My 14 year old son was accused of been a Huge spammer and hacker.Hacked a site that much that the site banned new Zealand from going on this site and caused millions of damage. The hacker had used a different name and unfortunately it was my sons name.Pissed off millions of people this hacker ranging from America and all over the world. The hacker started in Dec09 and they have all been looking for this person. In March this year they had put my sons details off facebook, photos and phone numbers and A google street map where we lived. As soon as these details were put on a forum site we started getting death threats and they were going to get our son even if it was at his home or School.Which they even put down.No information was missed. Also dobbed our son into the police that he was going to take a gun to school.Mums facebook and brothers details also.We had to go to the police and were very scared. This is still in process with the cybor police to track down this hacker which has a hotmail address. From Auckland apparently. So I have to say be careful with all your info on this site.

Debbs

Get out of the Kitchen

Well people do choose to use Facebook so it is their own fault if there info. gets spread throughout the cosmos. If you don't want your dirty laundry on display don't hang it out there.

Don't use Facebook, their lose of attention will start to be felt and they will be forced to evolve or go exstincted. I'll make a better page with a book focused on another body part. Armpit book, or Eyebook.
