I had corrupted files

I have a few issues with corrupted files. I finally found out why. IT looks like my MediaSmart (WHS) does not like drives that run at different rotational speeds. I added a second 1.5 Tb drive but it was a GREEN drive which will run at slower rotational speeds when it can. I will never get one of these green thingies again, just to save a few watts, the agrivation is not worth it. I replaced it with a standard HDD that exactly matches the drive that came with the server and no more problems.

I love my WHS

I too love my WHS. I have never experienced any file corruption, though maybe it does happen, just never happened to me yet. I backup 5 PC's on my little 230 Atom chip. I love it... I can't wait for Vail, I don't care about the name since its just their code name. It will change at launch.

Facepalm, I was positive that the 230 chip was 64 bit, and here is confirmation:

Oh dear

I love my WHS - it's a fantastic piece of kit, and I'm glad to see that MS are continuing to develop the OS.

It's got to be said though, "Vail"? WTF?

They may have well have called it Suxx or, erm, Wii..

On a not unrelated point, my WHS is based around an Atom 230, which IIRC is 32-bit only. Does this mean that Vail, being 64-bit, will need a more modern CPU?

Vail = Fail

Although I probably cannot top the postings of our esteemed colleague Drashek, I will try (enjoy your dairy bar, BTW!).

Why does Microsoft use silly names for their products, like "Vail" which rhymes so very nicely with "Fail" (as a product, as a "reliable" form of storage, etc.)? Especially with all the file corruption issues in the previous incarnation WHS (but really, what is a server for? As long at it is "easy to use" it should not matter if the data you place on it cannot be recovered later).

Of course, those who want to avoid paying Microsoft for the pleasure of seeing their data corrupted or plagued by viruses can just download OpenSuse Linux for free (64 bit works great), and enable the Samba server feature to share files, printers, and more on the local network. But what would be the fun in that?
