Yes, Sony has a rubbish track record with proprietery media formats and software. 3D however is not Sony technology.
3D gaming sounds great. But honestly, not many ps3 users will upgrade to 3d. You're more likely looking at ps4 time.
I just bought a 55inch 1080p LCD, no way I'm forking out for a new one with 3D.
ALSO
You couldn't be more wrong regarding MS (not that I like them).
Microsoft doesn't force people to buy computers with Windows pre-installed (the companies that build the computers put Windows on it, as you will see, Microsoft don't sell computers).
There are only 3 viable OS options, Apple, Microsoft, and Linux (linux = open source = no marketing = no market share). Apple is the only one who forces people to buy computers with Apple OS installed, and they are allowed because they are a business, and it's a very standard model to sell your own software for your own device.
While it is great that you already have a 120Hz refresh TV set, but you need an input which able to accept that as well or you stuck with a 60Hz input with interpolated 120Hz and that is not sufficient for the 3D. Unless a firmware update for the TV turn its hdmi into the new 3D standard one (I doubt it as everyone uses custom tailored chips not prepared to such a huge change) it is over
I have a 120Hz tv that my parents got me for Christmas and, last I heard, 120 Hertz is fast enough for 3d gaming, so I'm going to be pissed if I get left out in the cold simply because it isn't a Sony TV.
If it doesn't work on my tv, I call foul, because it means they're pulling the same kind of crap Microsoft does when it forces people to buy computers with Windows pre-installed.
Jason, you need to think before you rant.

Tin foil hat boy.
