USB & Multi-tasking

ekbart,

What is ur point? What's the point of using an adapter for USB when there are no USB drivers installable on the crap OS? Why the hell bother?

Why does it matter whether u need fancy adapters or whether u need to be able to install drivers?

U mean u dun geddit? "No USB" means CANNOT USE USB!

Apple wants the idiot consumers to overpay and continue overpaying for life, i.e. get everything through that bloatware iTunes. Suckers.

X-Trade:
U have a typically poor understanding of multi-tasking. In its true form, it involves crunching multiple applications at once. The bottle-neck may be CPU/BUS/input-output devices/memory. But in reality, after the apps are loaded, its purely a matter of memory (RAM).

In the techno-phobic world of Apple users, multi-tasking is about switching between screens (Alt-Tab in Windows). Netbooks on Atom processors do that instantly, there's no/little CPU overhead doing that! Ipad, iphone et al can't even do that!

This is the other misconception that multi-tasking uses more battery juice. A non-multi-tasking OS can use much more power because everytime u switch between apps repeatedly, the CPU needs to shut one down, read and process the new app before refreshing the screen and then do it all over again.

Just cos the CPU is fast and you do not notice the lag as much compared to a couple of years back does not mean that the CPU ain't killing the battery!

Multitasking

"Try doing that with a device that doesn't even give you the ability to run more than one application at a time."

Have you tried running more than one application at a time on an Atom processor?!

Has HP confirmed thes specs?

Has anyone in the media even ASKED HP if these specs are accurate?

Here is what the apple fanboy site that "leaked" this document said:

"Well, well -- what's this? We just got our hands on what looks like an internal HP Slate presentation given to cool down some of the iPad hype amongst HP employees, and it just happens to have specs and pricing details on the elusive Windows 7 tablet."

LOOKS LIKE.

They never once claim it actually IS an internal document and no one in the media has actually CONFIRMED it with HP.

Note also the boolocks about it being produced "to cool down some of the iPad hype amongst HP employees"

That is a massive red flag right there that this is nothing more than a con.

So is anyone in the tech media ever going to ask HP if these specs are accurate?

Or are they going to continue to just assume they are because it puts iPad into a slightly better light?

My guess is the latter.

And they call themselves journalists...

Yes, HP needs a spanking!

How dare HP bury their slate for 3 years and are now scrambling to get it out the door after Jobs launches something what wasn't even as good as what they had 3 years ago! They have shot at their feet with both barrels! Probably it was buried by Carly who was a total ass and has the gall to run for Governor in california after ruining both xerox and HP.

People should stop whining about the ipad not having a USB connection it does. you just use a little adapter thingie. What is more critical is the lack of a way to install USB drivers into the system because the OS is rather closed. That is the true problem here.

And what about VIRUS FREE do these windows loving idiots not get? Who wants windows on a kiddie device, they will just visit a site and BINGO the machine is dead! I am all for Apple censoring porn off the machine it keeps it a family friendly space, I don't want iTunes to be X rated.

The Ipad Killer has arrived.

His name is Jobs.
He don't play well with others.
Just the cut of chap that Rupert Murdoch admires.

Ipad was largely intended as a Kindle killer.

Not ("fair", "reasonable", "balanced")

Dirty Digger gets his just deserts. What could go wrong with that?

Funny that Murdoch, of all ink heads, would be catering to the smug snobs who only read papers that no-one else wants (his); the same smug snobs who are multi-task challenged, and who prefer a backwater kit maker (Apple) to moleskin their world views.

Let the Apps begin again.

We have found Nemo, and his days are numbered.

Windows 7 ....

I have tried WIndows 7 Starter Edition on the new fresh batch of netbooks coming out. With 1GB RAM, its a bit on the slow side. Helps with 2GB, but not enough.

Judging how fast and quick iPad is, according to tester, I dont look forward to HP slate

I have helped with HP TX1000 and TX2000, tabletPC; upgraded them to WIn 7 from Vista, maxed memory, but its still, well slow.

And when a slate/tablet is a tad on the slow side, you beging to reach for your laptop instead.....

HP OUGHT to know this!

An ARM based with Android, with faste reaction, might have been a better deal.

iPhlop again

Dan above claims iPad wins when sales fell short by nearly half of estimates and a ton of people bought them only to put them on e-bay to sell them for either the device being so what or because apple people are willing to pay a big price for the hype. Plus a lot of people are waiting for the iPad 3g version as this current version just blows.

Granted the iPhone was a great device but the iPad falls short of what it should have been. So much for listening to the public Dan. The current iPad is useless without a USB port and an apposing camera for me. They can fix this failure before the 3g version releases but doubt they will. So I am going to say HP is right they have what the iPad should have been and if you pair it with Microsoft one note the iPad is dead and only relevant to Apple die hards. Plus I dont care to be censored by Apple on a device I purchase.

In the end these are niche devices and Im not sure anyone who wins this market really wins unless they win the e-book market.

Its amazing the level of commitment Apple people have toward the company thats only great achievements in the last 10 years was an MP3 player and a great phone. You would think they solved all the worlds problems but they are just a two hit wonder. One more than Napster.

Misssed one detail

I am waaaay out of my league here but doesn't Ipad have the Multi-task limitation?

It is my understanding that I am able to watch a movie, pause it to receive a video call on Skype, and then switch back to watching my completely legally obtained file from the tubes; all seamlessly on the NON Ipad devices. Sure it will eat away at memory and hence battery power, but hey, until we get to use those miracle super-capacitors there has to be a trade-off for this kind of feature.

Its a type of consumer choice thing. And by the way folks don't you just love the fact that this competition will bring better products to the market!

Froth begets froth

I'm not sure why anyone lets you continue to beat this thing, over and over. No substance, no facts and no uplifting ideas. Just re-boiling the same pot of ... nothing at all. Like a Republican flogging the administration. If anyone can do it better, then why aren't they?
Jobs is not a winner because he's lucky (you should be so lucky), he understands what the public wants, nay - needs. And he is consistent with design and application. Focused in marketing. And the secret to Apple's success? Well, here's the secret: there is no secret. Marketing 101 says to give the public what they want, and remove what they don't want. It's the evolution of the species.
