Here we are... Nearing the end of September 2010 and iPad sales are through the roof. The road is already littered with the carcases of iPad wannabes. The iPad and iPhone 4 have weathered the FUD of the PC Press. And Apple's market capitalization is now $50 billion ahead of Microsoft. Suck it up Apple haters.
"The original iPhone took 73 days to cross the million mark. The iPad managed the same feat in just 28 days, about 2½ times as fast as the first iPhone did."
Now heading quickly to 3 million in sales.... everybody I know who has tried one is getting one or planning on it in the future. Witness the future of personal computing you Luddites.
I would not be "moaning at people who spend money on designer clothes eg £120 for a shirt £1000 for a suite". i'd even buy it for you if you'd look decent on it. I would however feel sad for the iDiot who does buy designer clothes that has moth holes just because the designer said its vintage look is the new "in/cool" fashion.
Lol Funny or what
LOL
Would you be moaning at people who spend money on designer clothes eg £120 for a shirt £1000 for a suite when you can probably buy something cheaper from a high street store.
You need to get a life and a higher paid job maybe, as obviously you have issues with people with money.

only a fanboi would buy an ipad
given other devices are available that are more capable than ipad on the same price point. those who bought the IPad deserve to be called IDiot's
RE:"The Ipad is an expensive Asus Eee. And that is it's problem"
Breaking Story.......
eee-pc's the world over are taking offense to that statement, one was quoted by the AP as saying "how dare he compare us to the ipad, we're actually useful, open and capable devices, we can even multitask, he will pay for this!"
I'd be careful walking down the streets at night, you might get mauled by packs of rabid eee-pc's looking to rein down a little silicon justice for that remark.
You do know if you have got a desktop computer or laptop already as well as the Hp
You will have to buy new software full packages eg office for £89 as the software you have installed on you Laptop and are normally single user licences.
And its illegal to install these on more than one computer
And about putting photoshop on the HP well on 1GB RAM its not even going to open this millennium
And how do you think you are going to run these desktop app on the HP when they are not even designed for such a small screen and have no touch capability built into them.

HP Slate is better than iPad
Great article, good points! Let's face it, the iPad launch is a failure with respect to analysts' predictions. It is very far below expectations (300k)..just half of what they predicted (600k).
Now there are thousands of complaints related to weak WiFi signals, no Flash, not enough features to replace their iPhones...iPad is in a heap of trouble.
Especially during a time when HP is scheduled to release the HP Slate with specifications that match the iPad and exceeds features by supporting Adobe Flash, Air, Multitasking, Front/Back Video Camera, SD Card slots, USB Port, with a full Operating System that will allow you to install your existing MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) or image editing tools (PhotoShop), and the rest of the millions of PC compatible applications you already have!
All at the same price range as iPad - truly magical and amazing: HP Slate!
Obviously the hype was big, but before you say that the sales were 'disappointing' take a closer look at the numbers: Apple only said that 'over 300,000' made it into customer's hands on Saturday. Roughly 50% of the pre-orders were for the mobile-equipped iPads and Apple has sold even more than won't get shipped until the 12th. 'Sold' and 'delivered' are very different. Except for Piper Jaffrey, most everyone thought the numbers were in line. Let's not forget that Apple is notorious for talking the market down in order to hit the ball out of the park when announcing earnings. Comparisons to the iPhone - the most successful product in consumer history - are inevitable. But when you consider that Apple delivered more iPads that Google has sold Nexus Ones since the launch, it is an eye-opener. The iPad has plenty of flaws. But I was stunned to see a 70-year old grandmother pick mine up and start playing with it. As a techie there is a lot I complain about (and I am certainly not a Mac guy), but I have to give credit to Apple for making a product that consumers of all ages can use almost from the start.
All part of the slow education of fanbois, and apple bosses, and they can argue and spin but investors will learn too: it is not that simple, apple's eggs aren't all golden and trusting they are when you can see with your own eyes this one was eggshell colored is stupid.
Lots of complaints on the Inq about the "tame" Apple press gushing praise over any Apple product. Well, it appears that the Inq and its readers are equally far overboard in the other direction.
Here we have a prime example. Apple releases a new procuct that sells more than 300K devices even though its only a half a launch since the most desirable version won't be out for a few weeks (3G).
This is OUTSTANDING performance for any new electronic product. Any other manufacturer would be thrilled with such a launch. The fact that some 3rd party "analysts" predicted even more amazing sales volumes does not change that fact.
The interesting thing will be to see how well the IPad sells after the initial purchases of the base and 3G models by Apple fan boys are complete.
This is more of a 'luxury' device than a standard computer or a phone since no one really needs an IPad and it does not replace the functionality of those devices.
To continue to sell such a 'luxury' device in this economy, Apple will have to work some serious magic with content and continue to execute well on software and human factors.
I suspect that in the long term, IPad sales will underperform compared to IPhone sales and analysist's predictions but still sell in numbers that would make any other manufacturer jealous.
The iFad is here, woohoo. Not. Waste of time except for the fanbots who can't wait to give Slob Jobs their money for an over-sized iPod touch. What a waste of money.

Hey Nick, are you ever going to stop posting 12-year-old fanboy level forum trolling material and calling it news?
The iPad sold 300,000 units in it's first two days and the 3G model isn't even available yet. Do you think the HP Slate is going to sell in those kinds of numbers? You're not insane are you?
The only sales estimates that matter are Apple's, and they're not sharing. I don't think any of the (very) smart people at Apple thought this thing was going to sell like the iPhone.
People thinking this is a 'game changer' isn't a surprise, it probably is a game changer. It's the first computing device that literally anyone can pick up and use. I could give this thing to my grandma and she could figure out how to use it. You can't say that of a personal computer, regardless of the operating system installed.
The fact that Apple has changed the face of consumer computing/electronics three times in it's history*, twice in the last ten years has people expecting really big things. The iPad probably is as big as everyone things that it is.
This thing will sell more in it's first month than the next best selling competitor will sell in it's first year, no doubt.
Oh, and Buzz, what other products are you raving about? There aren't any. Have you ever actually used a Tablet PC? They're terrible. Full-sized operating systems designed for keyboard and mouse input don't work with touch input. Imagine that. The iPad doesn't really have any competition until HP launches it's aforementioned Slate.
Look, I'm no fanboi, and am happy with the electronics I currently have. However, you can't really be comparing this release to that of the original iphone are you? The original iphone could not be preordered. Plain and simple the lines were so huge because people were not guaranteed that they would receive one like they were with the ipad. Not to mention that if you do a simple google search on the sales numbers, you will see that the first day sales of the ipad were significantly larger than the first day sales of the iphone. At least don't manipulate the truth.
Would you be moaning at people who spend money on designer clothes eg £120 for a shirt £1000 for a suite when you can probably buy something cheaper from a high street store.

The iphone combined the ipod and a phone. This is useful and means you only need to carry 1 device.
Ipad is a different proposition entirely. It is not combining features that were otherwise ungrouped or hard to access. Asus already did this with the Eee netbook.
The Ipad is an expensive Asus Eee. And that is it's problem.
Plus you now have to carry around something 5x the size of a phone and only as powerful as a phone.
In comparison to trying to use a rabid badger to access the internet the iPad would be a godsend.... not sure what your point was there. I would rather use something more sensible like a netbook I can type on
Wall St Journal was reporting news and opinion. When it changes they report that too. What is there to "admit" as if WSJ and Apple are the same company?
I agree with Nick on the fact that most of the trech press has become a vehicle for Apple PR.
Concerning device sales, i would suggest to wait at least until Rev. 2 or 3.
It took the Iphone 3 generations to really become a mass product, the Ipad, with all its shortcomings in Rev. 1, will go the same way but - in my estimate - will never become as popular as the Iphone, since a tablet is much less appealing than a smartphone (having the same capabilities and being more versatile and portable).

The numbers Apple released also do not include the existing orders for the 3G iPads.

The Iphone took 90 days to reach 1 Million unit sales worldwide.
So far Apple Has released this unit in the USA only and this it the none 3G model with this being release late April.
300.000 for the first weekend is not bad thats $150 Million in sales for Apple in 2 days.
I think they will probably reach 1 Million units by June once it is launched worldwide possibly more
