Works for me

I haven't had any trouble with the 10.3 update, I'm actually quite pleased with it. The speed improvements, though minor, are nice.

I'm using two Crossfired 5850 cards in XP x64 at the moment. I'm planning to upgrade to Win 7 x64 on thursday or friday this week yet hopefully it all goes smooth.

As for Linux support, I haven't really noticed too much change. I mostly am just using the cards in Linux for Stream work (they're much faster than nvidia cards for what I do, a 4870 is 2x the speed of a GTX275). I will probably stay away from the Ubuntu upgrade that's coming out soon for a bit. Last time I upgraded it right away I had to add nopat to all the machines' kernel options so that the driver would work properly.

10.3, HD5xxx and CRT = no-go

The link no longer works, as the ATI forum admin deletes threads and posts at random will. The thread is now here: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=130026&enterthread=y

AVIVO

Avivo convertor is listed under the additional components section and has to be downloaded seperately to the CCC.

Welcome to the club of CRT users affected by that bug.
Please add your complaint in this thread on AMD Catalyst forum: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=130690&enterthread=y

ATI must fix this ASAP!

Okay Sorry I guess...

But why don't I get no acceleration when converting videos for my iTouch through the GPU?

Am I missing something...Nvidia has like apps on their site for video conversion etc.

That Avivo converter I can't seem to find it anymore on Game AMD's site

You thinking GPU-Z is god might be your first mistake. Have a look here at the list of ATI Stream supported GPUs:

http://developer.amd.com/gpu/ATIStreamSDK/Pages/default.aspx#two

Notice how they include the 4000 series just as a stated? I don't know or care what type of fan boy you are, but you are $*%*ing clueless and spreading misinformation.

doesn't work

Haven't tried the ones with the opegngl4.0 but the regular one doesn't work. makes every game unplayable on a 5850 by stating "direct3d is not available because the computer is locked"

Great. But at least uninstalling will fix it, but then you don't have 10.3 drivers.

Firstly Idiot try & read carefully what I said.

I'm not Nvidia fanboy or wannabe Nvidia guy.

I'm using a HD4670

Here's proof for your brain

http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/7117/atip.png

As you can see in GPU-Z the DirectCompute box is never tickmarked.

For HD5670 which my friend uses with the same 10.1 driver in Win7 x64 it's tickmarked.

I've re-fromatted many times. Used my card in diff. computers. Still that Directcompute box never gets highlighted.

There is no problem with my card. I've tried 3 different brand 4670's all have the same result.

So there you have it.

Now care to explain?

No you can't only AMD can.

It must be something wrong with the installation of your ati driver on ubuntu. I always have the proper native resolution of my laptop, never had any problems. HP Pavilion dv5 with hd3400 ati card + Ubuntu 9.10

So you chose to buy a machine with a powerful GPU that only had and standard notebook res screen?

So what did you expect exactly? What went through your mind during the buying decision making?

You got what you paid for.

@Jay

GPU compute is supported on discrete 4000 series and higher...not sure where you got only 5000 series from.

ATI doesnt support nVidias proprietary CUDA for the same reason nVidia has no support for ATI's proprietary Stream. Rocket science? No..just pull your head out of your butt.

Hey James

You probably can install it, once you wipe your hard drive and install an OS disk (XP W7) that didn't come from Acer.

DirectCompute for HD4xxx?

Where is DirectCompute/ OpenCL support for HD4xxx & HD3xxx series?

Why only HD5xxx series support that!?

AMD/ATi mention clearly on their site that HD3xxx/HD4xxx support GPU Acceleration....

But no support still?

Stupid Nvidia supports their CUDA garbage on even their GF 8 line...

Then why don't you bring on support for it AMD?? This is a OUTRAGE!!!

Reply to J:
I speak not just from reports but from personal experience, currently running 2 systems with ATI cards.

And yeah I had a few unpleasantly bad experiences with nvidia too back when I updated nvidia drivers on a regular basis, and also was not too thrilled by their support I can add.

I'm a bit dismayed by intel's abandonment of their high-end graphics plans just because of the hassle I had with nvidia/ATI.
The issues with drivers is not just annoying in itself but it seems such a waste of potential in the hardware, and often so silly and pointless, and possibly easily fixed if they just listened to their customers who often do a lot of experimentation to really pinpoint issues, sometimes down to a few lines of code I bet, pinpointing the offending dll and what function on it for instance.

Unified Driver for 5XXX, Ups Eperience .1

Ati new 5XXX series No longer puts 5770 in seperate driver, only 5830 is still in Class by Itself, ALL other 5XXX cards are in same Package of Software.

On 5750, experience went up from 7.2 to 7.3 on graphics card.

Fix for 5xxx series?

Just wondering if this update fixes the crashes that are common on 5xxx based cards?

Sigh

@W

Please.. I've never had issues on multiple builds and laptops with ATI cards. Currently sporting an SFF with a 4760 and a laptop with a 5730. Never a problem with either. Of course I never had a problem with the nvidia cards I used to have either except for the mobile 8600GT that was part of their bad part snafu.

So, sure. Go by the internet help forums where 90% of posts are the 1% looking for help with Catalyst, the vast majority have no issues..

You forgot the caveat, here it is.

*note: performance enhancements and OpenGL4.0 are only available if you are one of the few selected for whom ATI drivers install and work.
