SSE5 will expose AMD's slavery attetitude towards Intel
Lately for past 2-3 years suspetion is inscreasing that AMD perhaps because of x86-licence secret clauses, is walking behind Intel head bowed. Their floating point peorfmance seems throtled by Intel and SSE5 will expose AMD's slavery attetitude towards Intel. AMD once threatend that it will spec SSE5 on its own terms because SSE4 was not developed keeping AMD on board. I believe this SSE4.x is the only thing which makes Core2Duo a non Pentium. SSE5 will put the nail in cofin whats this love/fancy/sham wrestling is going on since Core2Duo.

@James

Have you been living in a cave? Ever since Intel's Core 2 Duo speed for speed they have been ahead. With the Core i7s triple channel memory they now have even more memory bandwidth feeding their beasts.... Now when AMD releases their twelve core with 2 CPUs bolted together and quad channel memory that will be interesting.... depending on how they work their scheduler...

MegaHertz Myth.

I don't understand the impeccability that supposed experts have when posting articles like this saying things such as 3Ghz 2Ghz, well no, it doesn't work that way. Simply because you can ONLY compare different clock rates when you have the same architecture and chip design. a 3Ghz pentium 4 is than a 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4.

An AMD athlon 64 3400+ at about 2.6Ghz 3Ghz Pentium 4.

Can you please correct the article when making such unprofound statements as such.

AMD will still rock

Taking into account the 1k asking price for the ONLY 6 core intel chip available - AMD will still shake up the market with 3.0ghz 6 core chips.

They don't need to compete with stupidly priced processors that one in a million will buy - just the normal i5/i7 range and they've cracked it.

This article is misleading - without any figures or facts (other than what we knew already - i.e. clock speeds) theres not much here to read - only a month old information.

Theres no mention of the fact these CPU's will support the same type of 'turbo' function in the i5/i7's which makes the Thuban chip much more interesting and financially affordable for the masses than even core i7.

Yes you've probably guessed my 890 board is waiting for thuban :P

I'll take a pass...

...my crushing sense of superstition forces me to wait for CPUs of only odd-number cores. My trust Athlon 1600 and Phenom X3 machines will have to sit here and wait for a X5 or X7 processor to welcome home a new baby brother. Even numbered cores? Off with their heads!

They will do just fine!

Real cores are more desirable than fake ones. These new Thubans will do just fine against intel's high-end i7s and the low end Gulftowns.

Just hope for their sake they are priced above $400 so that they can increase their ASPs a little. If we all want AMD to succeed as a company, they'll need to increase ASPs one way or the other.

AMD vs Intel

Nothing unexpected here, except maybe the 3.0 Ghz frequency of the top X6, The Phenom II lineup is not competitive with Intel's i5-750 and above, which are a generation ahead. Still, AMD offers great value for money in the low and midrange.

With the recent release of the 890 chipset though, AMD is ahead of the P55/H55 chipsets.
