"Cute agenda you have there to drag up Microsoft's OOXML actions at every last chance."

Microsofts actions were, and are, indefensible. It doesnt stop being wrong just because you, personally are fed up with hearing about it. The lamentable "standard" is still on the books, and will remain so - and we are all dimininshed as a result.

"If Microsoft can even buy off ISO delegates, it demonstrates the corruption within ISO's ranks more than whatever other interested parties try to pull off, Microsoft or whatever corporation."

Likewise, if someone busts into you car and nicks the stereo, its *your* fault for having an expensive stereo and just leaving it in your car like that. I mean, the car thief couldnt help himself, right? Hes just doing what car thieves do!

But I forget myself. I would like to apologise to car thieves, for comparing them to Microsoft just then.

@Jammed, Terry

@Jammed: I actually like the suggested searches as it is rare that I know exactly what terms to search for to find what I want. If I want something exact, I just put it in quotes. Really, the whole purpose of a search engine is to suggest results based on a query. Sometimes, however, the query itself needs refinement for better results.

@Terry: Cute agenda you have there to drag up Microsoft's OOXML actions at every last chance. If Microsoft can even buy off ISO delegates, it demonstrates the corruption within ISO's ranks more than whatever other interested parties try to pull off, Microsoft or whatever corporation. As for corporations in general, if you believe that Google is really any better as a corporation, you're very naive. Google isn't providing their search engine out of the goodness of their hearts; they're hosting it to make money. "Do no evil" is just a way of saying "maintain good PR while it's worth the time."

Your Bing-a-ling

@ Jammed

I am glad you are happy using Bing. Maybe you will win a cash bonus from Microsoft (Microsoft is known for having lots of cash!).

However, I do not understand how people can trust a company that bribed (and created) "ISO delegates" (and possibly some of the ISO officials) to ram their proprietary "OOXML standard" through ISO. If they show no grasp of business ethics or respect for international laws, how can they be trusted not to slant search results in a way that makes them a buck (or millions of the same)?

Here is what I am talking about:

The light of the new dark age

As people get dumber and dumber, Google (and Apple) gets stronger and stronger.

Yeah, sorry, but Google is not a search engine, but a service application for the mentally disabled. Google automatically adds word to your query that you didn't search for, because it assume that you are too stupid to know what you want.. and people like that are born every day.

That is immature!

I'm glad that Bing hasn't sunk to that level yet.

The one thing Bing DOES get right is search.

Ditto

Agree totally with the below comment, Bing's search is terrible.

It is the default search engine at the college where I work and we can not change this. However it still proves faster to manually enter google in the search bar and search from google to find the desired result.

It is better than google for aspects such as fights, though there are many discrepancies and really that's a job better left to a dedicated application that uses dedicated APIs to retrieve information, not just smart page parsing. I also quite like google's book, video, image and shopping searches.

Bing is an application.

The one thing Bing doesn't get right is search. Its Ok but immature compared to Google.

99% of the people looking for something with a generic term then Google still rules. Cant argue with Google search results over Bing.

When it comes to other items like Pricing airline flights over the next couple of months then BING is much better than Google.

To me Bing is more of a web application while Google is search. If Microsoft can get Bing search up to speed then google will have real competition.
