I bought an iPhone this year about the time the Nexus One was launched. I only did it because neither the Nexus One nor the Milestone were available locally. Otherwise I would have got one of those.
Having to install something from the Apple store is stupid. As are their rules. And their stupid "you may be getting adult content" every time an application does some form of web access. I am a software developer, and I have better things to do than pay Apple $100 USD to be able to deploy applications. I also have better time to use my money than buy a MacOS X machine just so I can do iPhone software development.
iPhone will lose if they persist with this tired charade. Oh and can we get multitasking Apple? The 80s want their features back.
You know what would be nice? Someone who did an Android port to the iPhone 3G/3GS. I would wipe iPhone OS clean from it and install Android.
This suit goes to show how Good the Htc Product is and it's threat to Apple.. I have been a Mac user for almost 20 years now. I have always loved there product. When i went to buy a phone i wanted Android for it's openness free to do what i liked with it making it superiour to the apple product. Everyone in the tech industry as played the sharing game MP3, internal/external storage, touch screen and many many others. Apple just don't want play like the others.. I don't think i will be buying another apple product again.. Just wait till Android brings out an operating system and Computer. This will truly kill apple
I guess that's what Fred(?) Jobs had in mind when he was designing his latest and greatest "look at me I'm ever so hip and upwardly mobile" status symbol.
What good is an iPhone when it's stuck inside your pocket, right?
Much better when strategically placed alongside your CAPPUCINO(get it?) while sitting at the most prominent table outside your favourite CAFE(get it?), for all to marvel at. With any luck onlookers will bow and grovel in deference to your greatness. WE ARE NOT WORTHY. WE ARE UN-EVOLVED. WE WEAR $20 SHIRTS. FORGIVE US OUR BACKWARDNESS.
Bananas tout Apples.
Automatons tout Androids.

Steve Jobs is sitting on a pile of $40B cash. "Hmmm, what to do with all this dosh, innovate new products and compete on the merits of this innovation, or litigate?".
Unfortunately, the coin-flip seems to have fallen on "litigate".
The first option could have shown that Apple felt confident in its abilities to compete in the marketplace, and wanted to return value to its shareholders.
The litigation option suggests that Jobs and Apple have lost confidence in their abilities. Jobs saying that the under-spec'ed Ipad was "the most important thing he has ever done in his life" says it all. Declaring himself the only one who can undervolt processors, use a touch screen, or use finger gestures, and trying to sue others on this basis just shows that he has lost his edge (and possibly, his mind).
The market is pretty saturated with 3g & 3gS phones. Most with a 3g iphone will become eligible for a new one just in time for the new 4g model coming out this summer. A lot of new iphones will be sold then. 60% market share is pretty good. Apple had no market share three short years ago!
Second, Cappucino is lovely and I enjoy drinking it whilst oogling over the latest apple products siting in starbucks on my macbook pro.
Third, I agree with the previous comment regarding the light heartedness on theInq. Thats why this isn't the only news and reviews site I read up on.
Fourth, Lets be honest, its not apple fanbois that buy iPhone now, its everyone. I Know a ton of people who've purchased this handset, simply because they feel its a good phone and the phone for them. Simple, fun and an effective mobile internet multimedia device!
Cappucino and fruity toymaker references... Fanbois put down your razorblades!
Those individuals who are picking up on this obviously don't frequent theINQ very much. Newbies around here should really get to grips with tabloid/gonzo journalism.
The reason people the theINQ is because it doesn't take itself too seriously, maybe you should take a leaf out of their book?
Apple fanboys above and below will never understand why Android will render their beloved iPhones to the 2nd or even 3rd place in the smartphone market. They don't even know what android is !
Believe me, sTevE jOBs knows !! But no matter how desperate he is, he cannot avoid the inevitable.
This is not a very professional article. It's Cupertino not cappucino.
Apple is a company that has it's eye on the ball, unlike other mobile OS makers: they are not a 'Fruity Toymaker'.
Android and the idea of freedom of choice is rife with pitfalls. There is too much fragmentation for most customers. As time goes by, upgrading the OS and apps to newer hardware will be a bag of hurt, you'll see.
There is a paradox to choice: more choice is not better. A difficult idea for many in affluent societies to understand. Look at the Amish: those folks are probably just as happy as the rest of us - if not more so!
People the sales may have dropped off in the past 2-3 months, mainly because most people that wanted an iPhone have an iPhone, and us that have had the iPhone for at least 12 months and still on a 3G are waiting for the new "4th gen" or "4G" whatever its going to be called. due to be released in the next couple of months, and IF apple have lesten to its users, and take some of the great features of jailbreaking, then the new iPhone will shine bright... look out for iPhone sales figures over the next 6 months!
Jobs good innovator, bad businessman. Will lose in the end.
1. Controls apps - No one likes a nanny
2. Monopolizes channels for content
3. Arbitrary decisions on everything
4. Ties to only ATT - expensive, and now very very slow for 3g
5. Hardware and OS tied
Wake up steve. No matter how brilliant you are or how big apple gets, most smart people will always work for other companies.
Many people I know who own Android phones purchases those phones because they could not buy and iPhone. Why? AT&T is the only iPhone carrier in the U.S. Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint customers are left out. Even so, loss of market share isn't a true problem because the market itself is getting larger. So, even in losing market share Apple and other smartphone makers are gaining market.
From the very outset of your article, the first 2 words to be exact, by referring to Apple as a "Fruity Toymaker," you lost me. You lose credibility as a bona fide journalist when you put your prejudiced slant on your topic before you even make your point. Are you reporting news or are you merely a cheerleader? I have no idea apart from the headline what your article is about, because you immediately turned me off the article and made me turn on you. You are not, in my opinion, an effective writer.
if the Apple really wanted to hurt Google, they would stop forcing everyone to AT&T and give other carriers access to the device. once again Apple just can't get pass that exclusivity.
Apple made a huge mistake going with AT&T in my opinion. That company just can not deliver 3G service to enough area/customers. If a customer does not live in the large metropolitan market, the customer can not get the Iphone period.
They would triple their sales with Verizion a company that does actually get 3G service over most of the country.
What does Apple expect, they come up with a great product that everyone wants to use and then cry when competition tries to get the services to the people that want it.
I plan to purchase the Ipad 3G unit. I will use my Verizion WIFI at home where AT&T service does not exist, and I will use the AT&T 3G service when I am in an area that has it.
Firstly why not link to the report in question? The detail is quite interesting.
Mobile web is a rapidly growing market segment. It has gone from a web market share of less than 0.1% when the iPhone was introduced to nearly 1% globally in December. Growth last year was 110% in the US alone.
iPhone OS web usage peaked at about 65% of the market back in January '09 and has fallen back to a fairly constant 60% since that point. A constant 60% of a market growing at over 100% annually isn't something to be sneezed at, and I seriously doubt it's the reason that Apple are going after HTC.
That might reduce the number of you nutters coming here and taking it all so seriously.
Please ask the fruity toymaker in Cappucino for a humour app.

Look at the real figures and forget this troll.
Windows Mobile is dying, clearly!
Take it as a man, you troll!

"Android Gains Market Share, Apple iPhone Slips"

No wonder Steve Jobs is so pissed. Given his recent blizzard behavior, he is not an asset to Apple anymore.

Good day sir.
This writer is trolling for views. This article has Jo useful comparative info.
The more spectacular headline, the more views, the more advertising dollars, the happier the editor.
Count me as one of the suckers who fell for the headline.

Iphone has many drawbacks compared to Android ones. You need to jailbreak it to run any software. It's more meant for people without computer skills.
every 15 year old is getting a blackberry to use ping with, not for websurfing
"cappuccino firm"? Do you mean Cupertino.
+2 to Steve
+1, Thank you, Steve.
