The iPhone was an "also ran" ... really?

That's a pretty bold assertion to make.

If the Palm Pre was an "also ran" while missing just video, then this was doubly true for the iPhone missing both video AND cut & paste until June of last year.

Shame on Palm

I was sooo hyped about this Pre and i was about to upgrade my iPhone 3G to 3GS so i was really considering to go for the Pre thanks to its new OS and size among other things but it never arrived to Sweden and after a long wait i bought the 3GS so no wonder they don't sell. They kill their own product by not releasing it on time. this is the same misstate as many other companies and sadly they never learn.

I seen movies with Pre in action and think it is a great platform and it seems the phone is good looking and all but in order to me to change it must be launched here (Sweden) with a working appstore otherwise i dont see why i should change from my wonderful iPhone.
I'm already saving for 4G :D

BTW another reason i abandon the idea of getting Pre was the fact they dont provide a proper Sync application and you are forced to use iTunes and hope with the iTunes update you still can connect your phone to your computer. Palm managers should get a ass whooping for just this reason.

Days Late, Dollars short

Once an innovative company with the Palm I, II, III, Tungsten etc, they are currently lost when it comes to cellular OS including the latest flop, WebOS

Keep on locking your over-expensive phones to CDMA/PCS technology, while the rest of the world is on GSM.

With every progression of Palm devices, they forgot the loyal users who purchased every upgraded device with hopes of existing features improved upon, and new features embraced. For e.g. Desktop Calendar with private masked records, a staple of Palm OS since 1990's, is missing in action in WebOS. The answer for loyal users with years of stored palm data is to run an 3rd party emulation software. In such cases, you lose the customer as a whole.. Not to mention the every ubiquitous memo-pad feature is also MIA.

Palm might have better luck embracing the Android Platform with a truly openmoko style GSM Device. Release GSM devices in Europe, and forget the US market where not everyone wants a CDMA/PCS locked phone tagged onto a sub-standard carrier. And then wonder why you're bleeding..

This company deserves its failures..they brought it upon themselves..

Phone w/ no Future

Does my new Sprint Palm Pre now have no future ? I like the apps I got for free . There's a homebrew app community. Is that to be the future of my phone ? A hacker toy ? The graphics are great. I played assassins creed until my thumbs got carpal tunnel syndrome.

Palm should join MeeGo

and gain a broader level of Linux support.

They can still ship their WebOS user interface if they want to, however the core will be an OS that runs on several architectures and supported by a much larger number of developers than Palm can ever afford.

Wrong pricing

Here in the Uk the Palm is (was?) priced the same as the iPhone. Most punters will go for the iPhone due to its huge software library and proven tech.
Palm should have undercut Apple to bring in more people to their brand.
I bought a Palm Pre and love it - especially the multi-tasking. My only criticism is that after around 5 months of ownership people in the Uk still have no access to the App Store.

Not sure what Palm are playing at.

How are they still going?

Gamble?

If Palm were in a casino, they'd have pished away their last chip years ago and long since been asked to leave by three burly men in black wearing shades and earpieces.

The last thing you'd have heard from them would be "What aboyt my Tux? It's tailor made and has to be worth at least one blue chip, right? Oh, come on fellas, give a guy a break! Hey, hey! Let go o' me! I got rights!"

I'd much rather resign with grace, like Psion.

Palm will be more powerful if it's using Intel Moorestown.

I think Palm should adopt Intel Morestown platform. If this happen, it will be a succesful and powerful product. And OQO disaster will not be repeated again, because Intel is care its customer like, SGI.

RIM should buy Palm

They can use the Palm WebOS as a testbed for running Blackberry service on top of a Linux based OS in contrast to their current Java based OS.
