The media cartels are in cahoots with proprietary software juggernauts like Microsoft and Apple, who are a "consumption vector" for this media (and who help them enforce their "everyone's a pirate" DRM systems).

Of course, we as taxpayers should support the use of ONLY proprietary software in our governments and schools. That way, all the tax money we would otherwise save using secure, nearly-free open source software can instead be channelled into Microsoft's (and Apple's) offshore tax-sheltered bank accounts, instead of being "wasted" paying for medical services and otherwise caring for citizens paying those taxes.

A similar argument can be made for "why" nearly all computers you see in the store have MS Windows on them.

Time to wake up, people...pull the plug on the food supply to these fat cats. Elect politicians who support the use of open source, don't buy proprietary software or computers containing it. Support musicians who sell directly to the public, and starve out the oppressive media parasites. Download and install Linux and other open source software, because you can, and because it is free and legal to do so.

Business Software Alliance (BSA) is the biggest bully in this.
But really the big Corps acquiring small FOSS providers is a worry! Free or not, it you want to set up dbms, you gotta look at Oracle now. right?
But the fight it on. Legal or extra-legal. The third world is running on pirated s/w. People here are not comfortable with FOSS which is usually not there in advertisements, and are not as user friendly. They cant afford original non-free software, they just used pirated ones!
And there is nothing in site that's going to change this any time soon.
Let the IIPA yell it's head off, we dont listen to them, they are too far away, when they come to close we'll shift to FOSS!

I witnessed a similar reprehensible act back around 2004 when a U.S. trade delegation arrived in Thailand to work out a "free" trade agreement. It was really a Trojan horse written to solely benefit greedy U.S. corporations, especially healthcare. And anyone following U.S. politics lately knows what a group of lowlife greedy bastards they are. Anyway, when the U.S. contingent tried to ram the B.S. trade agreement down the throats of the Thais they didn't get what they bargained for as the Thais told them to buggar off. It was so ludicrous.

See the obvious connection? If you don't, you aren't smart enough to make your own decisions in life, and you need the brilliant minds of those in govt to direct you in your day to day activities.

They don't have money to buy any licensed software legally. Most of them bought pirated DVD that containing some usual expensive software like Adobe Photoshop, Coreldraw and AutoCAD because too many books about it in Indonesian language.

Indonesian Government decided to adopt and campaign to use FOSS Software because using it is legal even without paying some donations.

The reason why the RIAA and MPAA hate open source is because there is no way for them to FORCE you to use DRM on an open source platform. You need a closed source system like Windows or OS X to force DRM on people. And as we all know, without DRM the entire business models of the RIAA and MPAA fall apart.

The funny thing is that the current implementation of open source software is the truly capitalistic way of doing things, since in a purely free market you do not have the fraud that is "intellectual property". To be precise, software doesn't have to be open source per se, it just has to not prevent use through intellectual property rights. Intellectual property is a collectivist/socialist invention, and it is only enforceable through government putting a gun to your head and forcing you to accept it.

Papa Joe Stalin would be proud of the RIAA/MPAA. Frederic Bastiat on the other hand, is spinning in his grave.

This story makes no sense. Why exactly do the RIAA and MPAA care open FOSS at all? They are not even in the business of selling software. Now if you said that Microsoft was pushing this, then it would make some sense. But the MPAA and the RIAA?
One has to think that the story got badly garbled somewhere along the line.
