Microsoft doesn't have "substantial control" of the business phone market, as the article claimed.
Figures from InformationWeek (5 Dec 2009) showed Microsoft's Windows Mobile declining rapidly in the enterprise. In new handset sales, BlackBerry is the enterprise leader, iPhone has moved up to second place, and Windows Mobile has slipped to 3rd place, with only 24% of the market.
No doubt the announcement of Microsoft's coming 7-Series phone platform will cause sales of current Windows Phones to completely crash, as it effectively gives Windows Mobile end-of-life status.
Only Nick can create such garbage and blame it all on the Mighty media in bed with Apple. Nick is such an idiot he the same day he writes the dribble the new market shares are shown with Symbian and the Mighty Vole shedding share and heading for the life boats with Rim, Android and yes Apple gaining.
You speak for yourself. Believe me when I say that no one pays much attention to the rantings of all of you Nick groupies and trolls. Not much beyond the occasional chuckle at the way you all swoon at the chance to flame him, like teenage girls at a Brad Pitt movie.
As to the story, I don't give the idea of MS buying RIm or Nokia much weight. Just doesn't make sense. But that's just my opinion. Yours may differ.

This is yet another daily Apple bashing post and there is ZERO analysis to be seen.
Nick, I know I speak for everyone here when I say I hope you get fired SOON. Your scribblings are worthless as are you.
"Microsoft have, in the past, bought companies based on non MS technology and converted them (Hotmail springs to mind),"
What? Hotmail is at last running on windows now? gosh. are you sure about that?
Will someone please take Maddoctor out and shoot him
It will put everyone out of their misery.
Intel DO NOT HAVE A CPU THAT IS COMPETITIVE IN THE MOBILE SPACE. Atom is still far too power hungry (it needs to be in the sub 1W range, and idle at much lower power before it becomes appealing)
MeeGo is another "Me To" mobile Linux, there's nothing special to recommend it above, for example, Android. AppUp is a "Me To" app store that is in no way innovative. Intel are a long way, if ever, from making a serious dent into this market space.
The last thing in the world that Intel wants at the moment is to crush their competition completely. They need AMD, nVidia, ARM etc to be out there and doing well enough lest they be declared a monopoly by the US government and broken up.
Back to the original article for a moment. Nick complaining about biased reporting? Pot, have you met kettle? Microsoft have, in the past, bought companies based on non MS technology and converted them (Hotmail springs to mind), but it's a slow, expensive and far from trivial job so it's not likely that MS would want to try buying Windows Mobile 7 market share this way. They MIGHT see RIM fitting in with their plans for Exchange and mobile Office, which would be more compelling reasons.
Final point, I notice that Nick has taken to spouting the worst of his bile over at Fudzila, where people don't get the chance of answering back and correcting him. Are Inq management losing patience, or does he not like his obvious failures being pointed out in public?
Of couse, Steve Ballmer is not fear to challenge because of Apple iphone or Android devices.
He is fear to Intel and Nokia effort for MeeGo based devices and innovative Intel AppUp. Every handheld vendors are preparing to transition from ARM based software to Intel based software. Intel will own all as usual, even the bumper for othe semiconductor players (AMD) is going to oblivion for its incompetitiveness.
Microsoft bought in DOS and called it MS-DOS, they bought in VMS and called it NT and they bought in Sybase and called it SQL Server, etc. etc.
The stuff they build themselves is junk. A long list is Basic programming variants, for example. Basic! What crap.
They have had NT for a while now and they have succeeded in making it crap (W2K was good, Vista and Vista + SP (Win7) are garbage).
They do not have a decent mobile platform so they will buy one it.
All this is good for shareholders. For anyone else, they would have do be complete idiots to go anywhere near the stuff.
