AMD should directly auction them on ebay and get the best price for the limited number of chips it can supply. If you use paypal with ebay, ebay is very reliable. I have never had any problem with ebay when buying things using paypal. The protection paypal offers is much better than using credit cards.
Performance is one aspect of why customers buy servers. But it is far down the list. What about price? What about power?
We'll see where Beckton lands in the grand scheme of things. My personal belief is that they just should have called it "Itanium III" and just faced the fact that they have built one more product that the market isn't going to want.
Come on guys, why are you so concerned about a e-bay auction? It was 1 line.
I could "sell" these 8 core processor's and then dump the e-bay account and run.
Even if they were real, things get stolen. Remember the original dual core intel chips that were stolen out of the cases while being shipped to the stores.
Let focus on the fact they are making 8 core chips.
Buying cpu's like this from a verified reseller/proper channel is one thing but through ebay? You are taking a gamble. What if these are counterfeit/stolen chips? How do we know AMD will honor the warranty on these?
Once you step outside the proper channels, all bets are off.
Are all of you brain dead? You think AMD is going to throw out it's hottest chip without warranties? I've RMA'd to AMD no less then 12 times (mostly not AMD's fault but user stupidity) and they have been quite honorable at replacing the CPU's.
Which one of you has actually purchased 10k in CPU's before? Yeah...thought so.
Have you heard of a credit card chargeback? It screws the seller if it's a legit claim. Plus, Paypal protection that generally rules in favor of the small guy.

What a nickname AMD has picked!
Everytime I see it I read it as "mangy cores."
Mangy, as when a dog gets the mange.

This processor will be tronched by Intel Beckton in benchmark.

dont buy if you dont have money,..but if you have money to spend ,.why not.
Have you not heard of all the eBay security and fraud issues? Guess not.

Sure, I would spend $7,000 for 4 cpus and if they don't work to bad. NOT!!!!!!
Why would anyone buy stuff like this on ebay. Pure stupidity.
