Very logical

There is not irony. Searching for Wikipedia articles is one of most common purposes what Google is used for. The biggest asset for Google is huge ammounts of available information it can index. On cotrary, the biggest threat to Google are ghettos and iron curtains which lock information and/or require huge payments for indexing it. See Twitter, Facebook, Associated Press and big media companies. Paying $2 mln to Wikipedia are just pennies.

Irony

Am i the only one that sees the irony in this donation? Google, the worlds largest advertising company has just donated $2million to wackypedia allowing it to remain free of advertisements.

It says either A) google really didnt think about that aspect. B) didnt give a shit. or C) doesnt want to subject itself to dealing with all of the bullshit that comes with doing business with the wackopedians.

My guess is C, Eric, Larry and Surgey probably held a meeting over the subject and decided that with the cost per ounce of sanity these days it would be far cheaper to just donate the remaining balance needed to keep the wackopedia afloat and more importantly independent for one more year!...

Good stuff

Wiki is "The best of the web" Glad to see it gets treated with respect and kindness by both those big money companies.

/shakes fist at Google

Damn you Google!

Wikipedia is bad enough as it is! Get off your backside and turn Knol into a proper Googlepedia to compete against this evil Wiki!

I'll admit, Wiki has a use for contemporary net memes, since it is more able to keep up with the times, but a properly managed Googlepedia could do that and more.
