Hmm...

Didn't Cyrix make a CPU in the mid 90's called the Media GX that had video and sound integrated into the CPU/packaging?

Larrabee will be back...

It's true that a home version of larrabee was canceled. But because of so many delays, intel don't think it's performance is up to exceed the competition. Just what it's about to happen to Fermi.
But once they finalize the first Larrabee, it'll be much easier to tweak it and then bring it to the market, maybe as Larrabee 2.
I honestly hope intel get larrabee right GPU market could use a third competidor. We would benefit from that.
As for IGP, Intel will always suck, because they need to keep it cheap.

@ Gigi

Wow, I dunno what to make of your comment. Either
(1) you're new to the Inq and didn't realize they use 'humor'. See: CineBench.
or
(2) you're trying to make your own funny comment. See: waste of ink. Ink? A pun on Inq, or...

what a waste of ink

CineBench 10 OpenGL score wasn't bad, as you see here, at one third of a GeForce GTX285 high end GPU:

Please excuse the author for his profanity. Don't blame him, everybody needs to eat. If he can still eat after all that Intel-ass-kissing, good for him.

Don't hold your breath for an intel discrete solution

Uh, Maddoctor, Larrabee's been effectively canceled as a discrete graphics card. It may be released for the GPGPU or high-performance computing crowd, but it won't displace high-end graphics cards since it won't be fast enough to compete with them.

Intel is the biggest joke when it comes to 3D graphics hardware. Even when they actually attempt a high-performance 3D part, it turns into vaporware.

Unfortunately, intel is too proud and stubborn to license IP from its competitors (nvidia, AMD/ATI), and is doomed to continue producing crappy integrated GPUs that can barely flex enough muscle to handle HD video playback, let alone 3D games.

Good review, Nova.

If you want to play the latest FPS game in high res with maximum setting, don't use any onboard/on package IGPU. Buy the latest discreete Graphics Card for better experience. I hope that Intel will roll out Larrabee this year, so nVIDIA will be out of picture for Intel based PC, even with its Fermi.

Intel

is never going to release a good GPU driver. If they did, it would be a first.
