Nobody cares

The adult industry doesn't care about this situation. They just move right along and instead of apps, they make sites like PinkVisualPad.com specifically for the iPad and other sites for other mobile devices and they sit back and laugh at this "war".

Don't like Flash?

Don't like Flash? Don't install it then. If you run Windows, Linux, Mac OS or Android, you have a choice. Just as you have a choice about Java or what languages you can code in or where you get your software from.

If you run iPhone OS, Big Brother Steve makes the choices for you.

Apple sucks

First off DO NOT BUY THE FIRST ITERATION OF THE IPAD. Wait for the second one. Secondly....Just build a Hackintosh. Also, Steve Jobs has control issues and is a money hungry little B!&*%. I say in 3 years Apple will be where MS today. Buggy software, security issues etc. So far so good. The black hat convention said Apple has always been easier to hack. There just was not enough of them to do it. But today is a different story.

Apple Execs Commit More Felonies

This is a typical corrupt business practice from Apple.

It's a clear anti-trust violation.

The reason Apple is blocking access to flash is to attack a competitor, and to use its monopoly power in the handheld media device market to get monopoly power in the internet movie file creation market. (Flash videos may be free to watch, but people pay Adobe plenty to create them.)

Apple has no valid business reason for blocking flash. It claims that flash is buggy, and that this leads to its customers having bad user experiences. But the solution to that is to give users the option of enabling or disabling support for flash. LET THE CUSTOMER DECIDE. That would be very easy for Apple.

It's easy to see that Apple doesn't want to do what's right for its customers, or just in general what's right and legal. It wants to use its monopoly power to bully other business, and it doesn't care if its customers get frozen out from 99% of all internet movies (including porn)

Apple is a bully and a habitual criminal. Its executives should be put in prison. Why do we let them pretend to be a socially responsible company? They are monsters. Don't buy their products.

Flash must go

Has anyone of the Flash-defenders ever stopped to take a look at what a steaming pile of SHIT it is?
It has tons of serious performance, usability, security AND stability issues.
30% CPU-time on a Core 2 on Windows. 100% of whatever CPU you got on OSX and Linux. Dropping frames included.
Stealing Events from the Browser, most notably scrolling. Look at this video of an Adobe def trying to scroll a webpage filled with Flash on a phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlWOocHwcLo#t=2m20s
Of course, everyone does their own buttons in Flash, so nonstandard look&feel EVERYWHERE and poorly implemented controls.
Then of course frequent security loopholes that take Adobe forever to fix and even longer for the users to update, because nobody EVER updates anything if it doesn't do so itself. And we're talking about a Plug-In that's probably most frequently exposed to possibly malicious content (read: porn). The situation is so bad it led Mozilla to build an update check for Plug-Ins.
Seriously, all you people want from Flash are overly fancy page elements, silly games or video and there's a better way of doing these without it (Javascript, Java Mobile, system video libraries).
And YES, Adobe IS lazy. They recently began adding true hardware acceleration for video on Windows - the platform Flash already works reasonably on - but keep complaining how they can't do that on OSX. They say Apple won't give them hardware access, but why would they need it? They have a powerful, efficient and fully accelerated video api to take advantage of, but they won't.

Flash has been junk for years

Echoing some people above, flash has been buggy and bloated for years. Adobe's PDF, Flash, etc... bloated junk. Nothing to really read here besides two companies throwing a Hissy - Better to leave them both.
Flash sorta works on my Windows XP and Linux Machine - bloated.

If you want CNN or BBC coverage, tune in to them. I called you a fanboy because your reply is the same as theirs. Not to mention your lack of comprehension of Nick and The Inq style. So your not a MAC Fanboy. Good for you. You are, however, among the legions of Nick trolls that hang on his every word just so you can post some off-topic sarcastic drivel in the form of a reply to the article. If you want to be a journalism critic, take up teaching. Otherwise, piss off...

@john devoy

Yep, control of APPS and MEDIA (music and e-books) is what it's all about.

If the iPhone and iPad supported Flash or Silverlight, then it would be all too easy for developers and content-providers to bypass the Apple stores and sell direct to end users.

But HTML5 doesn't exist yet!

HTML5 is only a draft standard. Fine for Jobs to say HTML5 is the future. And right that is - it certainly isn't the present. So he is effectively offering no solution, and you can bet buyers of the first iPad's will be S.O.L.

As much...

As much as I hate Mr Job's control freak nature, I feel inclined to agree with him on this one.
More and more web pages contain nothing but an embedded flash presentation with no attempt made to write html by the "designer", this means a page which would contain 2k of text and a few images is now a monsterous bit of flash which won't resize onto different size screens, and is pretty much doomed on mobile devices.
Ironically the arty farties who love using flash for design (because html just hampers their creativity) are invariably Apple owning farties, so with any luck they might actually take notice and learn to design a "real" web page.

@ nECrO

..and yet another anti-apple luddite who failed to read what I actually said, or see that I understood perfectly what the inq is about. If I fail to berate Apple with the same venom as you does that still make me a fanboi in your eyes?

If you can spot the the bit where I stick up for apple, then feel free to point it out. You'll find I neither praised nor berated Apple. Thats if you can actually spot it, inbetween my criticism of Nick for his journalism. And if you can supply any surplus brain power left over after your own mouth-breathing for the task, that is.

My point was simple - Nick had the perfect foundation for a good inq story here, dry wit and all - but he blew with a single childish comment and not inconsiderable bile. As he has with many other Apple stories I might add. It only reduces his credibility.

Oh and btw - not a single apple product in my domain (professional or domestic), and neither by design or by accident. so FU with the fanboi comments.

Not Adobe...

... but Google will decide this battle. Nobody will bother with the Newton 2.0 if it doesn't even allow you to watch videos on Youtube, which are all encoded in Flash. Apple has no equivalent to it, relegating their hardware to glorified portable DVD player status.

And HTML 5? Give me a break. That will never happen.

Flash is buggy for Win7 x64

No doubt Flash is buggy!!!
Anyone using Win7 x64 can confirm that after installing latest Flash, the IE8 (32-bit) will be regularly crashing pointing to Flash... :(
BTW, IE8 (64-bit) has no Flash support at all.
And I am amazed how Apple manages its users, controlling what to watch and how. :)

@dennis: ""May i add that the fascist state of Denmark also blocks search engines that are able to find illegal software.. except Google's ofcourse.. cause they are not evil! Atleast not as evil as swedish teenagers!""

No, you may not add that. If Denmark is a fascist country then Obama is Djengis Khan !
And who needs to search for illegal software ??
Don't know what Swedish teenagers has to do with that?? They don't live in Denmark ???

APPLE FASCISM

If Apple thinks that porn doesn't matter to their users, Apple Fanbois must be eunuchs. This would explain a lot.

Apple needs to get its' act together and stop selling lock-in solutions to the gimpy-minded. They are like AOL - The Next Generation, The EVIL Twin.

Whoa! whoa! Just a minute there !

Did Jobs actually say that Macs crashed ?!? And Macs crash because of a stupid APP ?!?

So it's official now : the Apple OS can't manage a simple stupid app crash.

I'd have thought that a Unix-based OS would do better. Even XP works better than that.

no flash no deal

If it ain't got Flash one has to wonder what else is missing. What more basic cornerstone building block to the internet is there than Flash?

Apple: Are you out of your fu@#$## mind?

Won't be long before bloggers then reviewers then enews then mainstream news then the sheeps/customers figure you out for the app pusher that you are.

You know what happens when you try to forcing yourself in by blocking what your customers expect?

You lose money.

The issue is CONTENT

The issue isn't really if flash is buggy or not; the fact is that flash can provide users content that Apple can't charge for. The iPad exists to sell content from the various stores, no other reason.

From the screenshot gallery page:

<quote So there is no official Adobe movement to “play the porn card” like some “news” outlets are reporting. It is only an individual employee who overlooked the fact that some people are offended by the idea of adult content on the web.</unquote

Never have snigger quotes been more appropriately applied, it would seem.
