Looks forward to it

Does it really matter, not to me it does not. I will just buy the new enterprise version on the HUP as I did with 2007 for less then 20 quid including postage.

Or you can use Gnumeric & AbiWord

Gnumeric is faster than Excel, audited for correctness by 3rd parties & it's free.

AbiWord is faster than MSWord, uses less RAM & it's free.

Works fine on integrated gfx

Am running beta on a Dell E4200 (1.2Ghz Intel ULV cpu + Intel integrated gfx). It works just fine. Some of the bells and whistles in the upgrade are very nice, although not sure I'd pay for them independently..

An Intel Pentium III 500MHz CPU, 256MB PC100 SDRAM??? Huh?

You boys must really be in the hardware toilet at the cheapass INQ. What are you running 486DX-16’s???. And, how in hell do you run anything WITHOUT a GPU??? Please give us a clue!

As usual, you’ve taken MS bashing to new heights of absurd frivolity. Then again, considering your hardware requirements, you’re definitely not MAXIMIUMPC.

I think it’s time to put up some more ads, spend some money, and upgrade.

Why?

I save my cash. I see some friends that give MS all those $$ and end up using only MS Word, LOL.

My reply to such lunacy, Open Office.

PC100?

Crap, I only have PC66. Thanks for finally making me have to upgrade. Jebus. Why don't you put your HD Rotational Speed, GPU Memory Bus Width, and RAM Chip Density requirements out there while your at it? Come on, it's not good enough to be halfway pedantic, you have to go full bore!

does not compute

who are microsoft targetting with these 'improved' versions of office?

the advanced features will only be used by people who already used them from previous versions.

anyone buying and using it for the first time will just be bombarded with unnecessary confusion.

i think it will just displace people into using open office for its simplicity and its unbloated requirements

64 bit makes sense

Especially for Excel - it is frequency used for Data Mining, or generally analysis. This implies large data sets.
