Whoever wrote the review never held the Liquid in his hands

How can one say that having the power buttons 3/4 way up on the left side is inconvenient? If you hold it with the left, it falls right under the thumb. If you hold it with the right, it falls right under the index finger. Just about everyone praises the positioning, me included (unlike the iPhone which has it on top, geez).
The battery life is appalling, but it's still the best of the new generation of Android phones. The Nexus One has half the batter life of the Liquid. The Milestone, just slightly less.

(I assure you I had it in my hands for several weeks and my comment wasn't that the power button was awkwardly placed in and of itself, but combined with the need to then hit the menu button requires some serious dexterity when trying to use the use device single handedly - Ed)

Bulky?

"..somewhat bulky phone - at 12.5mm thick it's almost surprising that it lacks any kind of slide out keyboard."

Really? How many phones do you know that is 12.5mm think with a slide out keyboard? None! The Moto Droid is the slimmest out there w/ a slide out keyboard and it is 13.7mm.

"The four touch-sensitive buttons along the bottom - namely home, search, back and menu - are represented as rather obscure icons with no text, so they can be a little confusing at first if you're unfamiliar with Android devices."

Come on.. how retarded are you if you can't figure out those four icons? Seriously need to work on those memory cards, pal.

Eten - They made TV mobile phones!

Acer, put some of that normal TV goodness inside your phones so that they have a USP.

I want normal TV, not that shitty buy an hour of old TV downloadable crap.

I want normal broadcast TV, free!

Re:Better than the Vole

You really think google is better then microsoft. You must be stupid google has created a profile of you. Everything you have searched for pictures of your house, your mac address of your wifi point, your cell phone information everything has been recorded. Google is expanding everywhere. Microsoft is nothing compared to google. Google has your data and it's safe for now but who knows what they are going to do with it. Google knows more about you then you know yourself. That is scary!

errors in article

Hi

Sorry to be a bit boring but there are a number of significant technical errors in this article:

Quote: The four touch-sensitive buttons along the bottom - namely home, search, back and menu - are represented as rather obscure icons with no text, so they can be a little confusing at first if you're unfamiliar with Android devices.

Error: I am not aware of any other Android device having the hardware buttons labelled- they are labelled with text in the on screen menus only.

Quote: This upgrade should be a relatively easy and straight-forward process, judging by the automated over-the-air update Google provided to upgrade HTC's Magic and Hero range from 1.5 to 1.6.

Error: Google don’t provide updates for the Hero- these are obtained either from HTC to apply via Windows PC for unbranded devices or in similar form from your supplying telephone network. The Hero runs Android 1.5 and HTC have said that they will provide updates to Android 2.1, bypassing both 1.6 and 2.0. Over the air updates are available for the Magic.

Quote: User accessible onboard storage is restricted to 256MB and Acer has thrown in a 2GB microSD card for good measure, more than enough for applications, photos and a little media and it's easy enough to buy a cheap 8GB or 16GB card if you want to up the capacity.

Error: Stock Android devices can only install apps to the internal memory. It is possible to change this but only with a rooted phone and after market software modifications.

Otherwise a good review, thanks

Better than the Vole

Why is Google any different to Microsoft? Why would you want to give your data to Microsoft instead of Google?

At least Google stores the data safely. Unlike the Vole. We know how Microsoft treats mobile phone data... search for the words Danger Sidekick, and you soon learn how Microsoft will handle your precious data, messages and photographs.

Android is a modern phone operating system, unlike Windows Mobile which needs a stylus pen to operate.

YES!!!

Android rocks! DIE IPHONE DIE. soon the world will be run by google. All bow down to the mighty google. There will be one single company that will control everything. No this is not skynet but Google. I have already transferred all my saving to google to help support the might overlord. I suggest everyone follows suit. All hail google!

No skin is good

The fact that Acer didn't put its own skin interface on top of Android is a good thing, and probably the reason why the handset is fast and snappy.

Extremely affordable generation 2 android device.

The way I view it, the Acer Liquid is an extremely affordable (£306) android device, sporting the fastest available hardware. The fact that the CPU is twice as fast, the screen has twice the resolution and will get android 2.0* compared to the HTC Hero.

I do agree with you about the battery time, something that is caused by a suspected SW bug around android forums. Maybe you could get an answer from Acer seeing as user-support isn't their strong suit, but PR might be..

Frankly I'm a bit underwhelmed by this review. It's somewhat one-sided.

* As told by Augustine Becquet, the Director of Acer Smartphones France.
