I agree a 90's GMA, someone has to start somewhere. AMD doesn't seem to be producing much. Maybe this will be a catalyst that will start the transition?
I'm really hoping for Non-Extreme Edition Gulftowns coming this year. I'm not willing to pay $1000 for a CPU even if it is Gulftown, but even a ~$500 version to replace the current Core i7 960 in that price bracket would be tempting although still expensive.
How the f@ck are we supposed to work out which one is best for our needs?
I remeber when it was 486 and it was either 25, 33 or 40 MHz. That was an easy choice.
Now it's too much choice that even techies are struggling. Is the AMD x3 400 something or other better than the Intel i1, i3, i5, i7 something or other? I don't fugging know!
There is no 'refining' going on at Intel. All chips are made using the same process and the chip design will not change because a low end part made it to market a few months before a high end one.
It is all marketing strategy. In a good market it makes more sense to get those extremes out the door asap to cash in on the huge margins. Now they are just using the core i5's to start generating some hype for 32nm and hopefully get more high end sales as a result.
I always enjoyed watching Sandra benchmark showing the next king of the hill - Yeah this Cpu is cool it does kick ass ... except that you are looking flawed softwares compiled with scrappy compiler that are next to the end !!! Actually your cpu does spend a lot of time waiting central memory when running real life application. Moreover Intel CPUs lack a good memory controler especially when it comes to 64 bits !
Intel is Gay? What is that all about?

This is all a scam to keep you buying. Intel is gay.
Gulftown - When having only 2 cores sat idle just isnt enough....

With a '90s GMA
Next please.
