Don't see the problem

Dont see the issue if people want to spend their money on Apple kit that is not the highest spec.

Would you complain about people buying designer clothes? £200 for a shirt or £1000 for a suite.

When you could probably get something similar for 20% of the price!!!

Its about buying something which other people do not have people aspire to be rich have nice house, car, etc

not cheap clothes from primark, or a mish mash put together Computer which looks like frankensteins monster.

Obviously some people need to get better jobs and some style!!!!!!

Fanbois count

The fanbois count on this article is a lowish 1.5 (at time of writing). Looks like the Apple aura has taken a severe denting with this one.

<cycnicism I reckon Apple count the fanbois comments on places like the INQ. There's probably an app for that. They use this number to determine the level of quality control they should employ (currently about 1 / 20). They also use it to measure the depth of shit they're in (approaching neck high - thankfully St. Jobs wears polo neck jumpers). </cynicism

@Scott

All good mate. The only problem is that running OSX on a computer which was not manufactured by Apple violates their EULA and they'll try and sue you.

This obviously is not a good thing for a company trying to do everything legally.

Apple was never interested in consumer satisfaction. There are enough gullible fools out there with too much money willing to pay for mediocre products which they'll defend to the death.

whose fault?

Clearly nVidia is at fault here. Duh.

@DANNY

You hit the nail on the head. If you want a mac build your own. There are plenty of good looking cases and better hardware for a lot less money.I have never had a problem with any ATI card or the drivers. If you install the catalyst driver that could be a problem.
My home built box with alimun case and Gigabyte motherboard will run any OS including OS X and it runs mac better than my Imac. Some day maybe people will figure out apple.

Not just Apple

Well most 1st generation products always have issues naming examples:

Sony PS3, Audi TT, Ipod nano, Windows Vista, Sony PSP, Ford Focus

Always wait for revision 2 this means the faults and issues can be fixed. if you going to blame Apple then nearly every company is to blame

marc123 - Apple outsources EVERYTHING

What ever happened to 'just works?'

Marc - Apple doesn't make ram, hard drives, displays, motherboards, they pretty much outsource everything and -at best - put it together. They don't even do final assembly of some of their products i.e. laptops.

Saying it's not Apple's fault because they didn't make the part, is like saying Apple has no responsibility or control of any Apple product quality.

Marc123, you're an idiot

Do everyone a favor and learn to use google:
http://www.google.com/search?q=apple+nvidia+problems&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Apple has had massive problems with Nvidia before. Why do you think they dumped them in favor of ATI on the latest gen?

Also, MOST of the reports of problems with the latest gen is cracked screens. How, pray tell, is this the fault of the graphics card?

And again, this chipset has been around for quite some time and has not had any issues in both PCs and *nix distros which is what OSX is based off of.

You can blame this squarely on Apple and I would assume we'll see a response from AMD on this soon.

ATI fault

This happened before with the first generation 24 inch imacs with ATI cards freezing and distorted graphics and Apple issues a Firmware update.

I think the issue is ATI fault, Apple has never had this issue with Nvidia.

Smoke and Mirrors

Mac's are without a doubt the best looking systems out there. Bar none. Nothing comes close.
Now what Stevie has done is convince the Apple crowd that because they look awesome, they also must have the best parts inside trumping PC inards with the best build quality ever. Then Stevie raises the price of Mac's to reflect this:

"You get what you pay for...."

Reality is the guts of all MAC's are medicore parts for the price you pay. Build quality of late has been piss poor.
Macs use LAST generation GPU's...No support for multiple GPU configurations. The only thing that Stevie is touting is the 27 inch screen and that comes broken in some Macs.
Smoke and Mirrors folks.
I don't call them the Cappuccino crowd.
I call them the Jack Daniels crowd....
They are so ruined on the sauce they can't tell they are getting it up the rear.

video card firmware? - really?

I have a hard time believing the cards are at fault here. Generally speaking the 4850s have been a very solid product and the hardware is very mature at this point. Sure, anything is possible... but Apple is always quick to point a finger.

AMD to blame?

Those cards all seem to work just fine in PCs.

I still reckon its sub standard/not powerful enough PSUs in the Macs.

Slim aint always better when you want power...even a piddly little 4670.

Whaaaaaaat?

How does AMD take the flak for this one?

How about they fix the issue instead of pointing the finger. I blame it on Apple's manufacturing process, not AMD.

History repeats itself

Here goes Apple again! Selling dodgy equipment that doesn't live up to spec, then issuing a firmware update to turn off what ever functionality is acting up. Happy now that you've spent an arm and a leg on your new iMac, and it doesn't work? I have a bridge I'd like to sell you too . . . .
