@mogwai, I get to a root desktop all the time, and I've never had to recompile the kernel. GDM may prevent it by default, but (a) I *think* there's a config file that controls that behavior now, and (b) I boot to a command prompt and start X manually - no need to boot to GDM
Fedora's policy of forcing end users to recompile the kernel just to get to a root desktop killed off any interest I ever had for it years ago. Don't need no hand-holding security garbage keeping me from my god complex.

Finally a distro with all apps pre-compiled to 64-bit? Sweet. Why didn't they do this before? 64-bit has been the redheaded stepchild too long.
