Intel cheats on benchmarks...

Intel is known to hardwire their CPUs to handle synthetic benchmarks. While they have their noses in front of AMD, the results are exaggerated because they cheat on the benchmarks. My personal experience of both platforms in realworld usage has shown no great performance upside for Intel vis-a-vis AMD.

@McKinley

"cost is my second concern."
lol ok, well that is not the case for everyone, go buy a 1k cpu that will give u 5 - 10% more maybe on a 965BE, that costs 1/8th the price.

@UltraZ

2 grands for two processors.

I was really hoping they will have some cheap 1366 32nm parts like 920. Actually I think they will. Just having the extreme part will limit the sales of 1366 mobos too much. I'm willing to bet 80% or more of 1366 i7 parts sold were non-extreme versions.

windows won't charge an arm and a leg because they are enjoying the bounce-back rift in the economy. everyone will buy again within a year and a half. I am waiting for a gulftown pc. I also know that costco.com sells the core i7's and i9's and at a low price with a good warranty to back it. I am sure they will price gulftown well too. windows isnt mac. mac is pricier generally for the same specs as pcs.

NeboNova Shill

Ah yes, another NeboNova shill article written to extole the mighty meatiness of those glorious products manufactured by the criminal monopolist organization formerly known as Intel, who shall now be referrd to in perpetuity as "ICM."

For anyone not an Intel shill (98.3% OF us), read the sordid facts about ICM:
Google the EU Court of First Instance/Intel pdf file and see all of ICM's criminal behaviour on display for yourself. Guilty as hell, plus caught trying to hide it as well...

NeboNova shill articles are a big reason the Inq has seen its better days.

Dear Ed.: You should have sold the Inq back to Mageek while you still had the chance.

COST IS KING

STILL ENJOYING MY FX-62 DUAL CORE. GOT IT FOR $100 OBSOLETE BLOW-OUT A COUPLE YEARS AGO. RELIABILITY IS NON-STOP, AND I LITERALLY HAVE NO NEED FOR MORE PERFORMANCE. SHRUG! GO INTEL. THAT WAY. SEE YA.

But wait,

that's only clean machine benchmarks. Intel was found to be tweaking drivers for 3DMark. Who knows what other tricks they apply since when you actually play games at 1080p, the $1000 i7 can't outdistance 965BE, so I guess it's like nVidia said, save $700 and get a better GPU.

Unless you just run clean machine benchmarks.

AMD haven't been able to keep up for a long while

You AMD boys are really living in your own dream world. Just face it, Intel processors cost more but it also outperforms AMD processors in every single test that matters. What matters to me os reliability and performance, cost is my second concern.

Overclocking?

These are SERVER processors and servers are tuned for reliability first, performance second. You can bet that they'll be running significantly below the maximum claimed 3.5GHz, if nothing else to keep the TDP down below the claimed 130W.
Meanwhile AMD has it's 6 core server class CPUs out in customer machines and is currently topping the supercomputer league tables (did you not notice this article http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1562211/amd-winner-supercomputer-race didn't you?)
How these things are priced and how well they scale are going to be the interesting questions.
