We Are Gathered Here To form New Union of Independence....
Bulletproof, NOT so. ANY 690 thru 420 chipset can be force feed -=7=- & RUN Pefectly, Once its brought UP to Snuff.

Hack few drivers in & take Lunch Break. BBbbbuuurrrp.
Forget old software, with compatibility wLizzard, its pretty easy to be right.
This war is as old as Moses. There are good and bad points to both Mac and Windows.
I got a Windows system, because as Ken has already pointed out, 90% of the computer users operate one, and it seems to be the same percentage on the software count. That 90% or more of the software is made for Windows.
Now on the Mac side, even as a Windows user, I have to admit the Mac OS has always been a much more stable operating system than any of the versions of Windows, and I suspect Windows 7 will be just as unstable as all of the previous versions of Windows.
I have used Macs at work before I decided on what kind of computer to get, and got a Windows 95 system for my first computer and now run Windows Vista, which has got to be the worst Windows yet, and so I can compare the two with some legitimacy.
Lately there have been times when I really wonder if my platform of choice was a mistake.
I chose a Windows system because I did not want to have any trouble finding software for a computer, but now I often think that I would now rather have a stable operating system that would run it's small amount of software rather than an operating system that has a lot of software that it WON'T run or not run glitch free.
I thought the CEO of Microsoft made himself out to be a real idiot on TV the other day when the greatest thing about Windows 7 that he could point out was that you could move windows and pictures around on the screen with your finger instead of a mouse.
I am waiting for Windows 7 myself so I can ditch this Vista crap, but it better be more than just another Windows with a touch toy.
It better be a heck of a lot more backwards compatible than Vista, for one thing, that's for sure.
Software is too expensive to be having to rebuy all over again with every new version of Windows, which was and still is the big problem with Vista (The speed, or lack of it, is another big Vista problem).
The computer I just got, I got because it came with an upgrade to Windows 7, and there were other computers that I liked better, but only had Vista installed on them, so this is a biggie for me.
All I can say is that if I get the Windows 7 upgrade and find out it is just a 'touch' version of Vista, I am gonna be one unhappy camper. ;D
So the article could have read.
"Windows cracked glass sealing at Apple store"
"Shot at Windows cost Apple a million"
"Apple has cracked Window"
"Apple store sees a million in new Windows"
I could go on forever :P
What horribly written article. Who wants to read news where a supposed journalist is seething and hateful? I liked INQ when they were just tongue-and-cheek. Now Nick and his mouth full of spotteddick is just annoying. I had to force myself to finish reading it just to see where he was going with this.
All I can say is this article is lame and your supporters are just plain dumb. Here's the reason why: If Mac supporters are only 5% of the computer community and PC's are roughtly around 85%, how is it possible that Mac supporters are high-jacking the W7 dialog? It's just plane dumb. What is more realistically happening, is people like Nick are sensitive and they don't like the talk-back. Boohoo Nick, you little cry baby. How about returning to a more light hearted news approach? You're bringing INQ down. Just write the news and keep your BS attitude to a minimum.
Keep slamming Apple and Macs all you want and tell everyone that W7 is the second coming till you turn blue, just try to be professional about it. Who wants to read garbage like this on a daily basis about the tech sector? I though INQ was a fun place for IT news, but now you're just reducing it to a moronic rant on your opinion and slamming a segment of the readers. If I was your boss I would give you a warning right about now and send you home with a book on how to be a "good" journalist. You obviously have lost your way if you were ever on the right track.
Asher whines about 'no apparent reason' The heading was obviously misleading, and the attempt to rework a story about a broken window into a MS slag was damn obvious. I thought exactly what was said here the moment I read it. Mind you the computing section of the Age isn't exactly known for profound, more for flogging iPhone contracts.
You wrote a snarky article and it got called out. Man up a bit.
not a shred of evidence that mac os X is better then windows 7? you're kidding right? mac os x has been out much longer, with a growing audience an multiple users in many fields including the human genome project, print and design services, music companies the list goes on. tell me when was the last time you actually used a mac?the only thing painful about these stories is that people are once again not listening to them. they run out and throw away another $200 or more on a flawed os just because they have no concept of what a computer should really do FOR the user not the other way around.Snow leopard sales wont beat windows because APPLE DOESNT SCREW THE PUBLIC out of it's money for a new product. The real reason people are breaking apple's windows in their stores? to steal their products, and possibly even to harm apple in the only way they can since the security on apple machines are legendary! When will microsoft advocates realize that almost perfect STILL isnt perfect! you can't get close charge 5 times as much as the perfect option and say that it's the best thing ever. that's like walking around with blinders on acting like you know where you are heading. oh well, when my business starts up it will definitely be snow leopard for me all the way, to hell with viruses and security breaches and an OS that tells ME what i can and can't do.
Nick, for someone who earns his crust mostly by re-writing other journos' stories - including mine - I find it baffling that you'd jump up to attack me for no apparent reason.
In case you didn't already work this out, the headline on the Apple story was a pun about the broken window. It's not to be taken literally.
I'm not sure how I can be considered an Apple fanboy when I only just ordered my first Apple product this week.
And i've written numerous stories slamming Apple in the past. The store vandalism is a legitimate story and it's newsworthy due to the cost and effort involved in replacing it. If anything, me covering the story will only be negative for Apple as it may encourage other copycat vandals.
Ironically, other commentators yesterday accused us of being Microsoft fanboys due to how heavy our Windows 7 coverage was.
But the bottom line is, I think your attack was completely unwarranted. Glass houses and all...
More concerned about the Windows 7 pricing here in Australia. Australian customers must pay $429 to *upgrade* to the Ultimate version, almost double the $US219.99 ($AUS238) price tag. Could almost by a Netbook for that price. Makes the $US29 OSX look "cheap".
Minor technical point on source of the article: Asher Moses is from the Sydney Morning Herald based in Sydney and not the The Age based in Melbourne. Both papers belong to the Fairfax Group thou.
I'm dismayed at other Apple fanbois such as myself. We trashtalk Microsoft all the time, but the fact is they still outsell OSX 20 to 1. I guess jealousy of Windows sales figures for the last 2 decades has made us bitter. In fact, I bet by next week, Windows7 will have already outsold all versions of OSX combined. I know I already asked my wife for the money to buy a copy of Windows7 so I can run it on my Macbook, & make it useful.
Apple has made a comfy home for itself in the media, by have a product that performs the required tasks quite well... hence there is an unavoidable tendancy for media bloggers to be biased towards the product they use every day.
There is no such thing as unbiased reviews... bloggers who use Windows will prefer Windows... bloggers who use Linux will prefer Linux... and bloggers who use OSX will prefer OSX
Fairfax media (smh.com.au etc) have the best journalists money can buy... just pay Fairfax to advertise on their sites, and you can guarantee rave reviews of your products.
Anyone who confuses Fairfax advertorials for impartial news & reviews, is a naïve, stupid or both.
I don't get it - Windows 7 has more beta testers than OSX Tiger has users, but still medias are obsessed with this fruit!!!
Guess which OS I'll bet my money on...
I always see comments like 'Microsoft CONTROLS 90% of the market', well apple.com isnt blocked is it? no. everyone knows about the company doesnt it? yes. So why is it still 90%. why are not millions and millions of PC buyers going out to get a mac.?????? I think the reason is that its too much of a overspend for little more on top. If apple did the following then they would be a contender:
1) licence DirectX (doubt this will happen)
2) Allow the customer to upgrade the graphics card, cpu, ram
3) lower prices, Apple has like $35 billion in loose cash! i think you could lower it a bit
If they did this then I and prob all the people I know would be more interested.
but then again if apple became more popular the fanboi's might have to install antivirus!!!!! jesus christ!
I don't know why you are all so hard on Nick, his anti apple postings are really true to the core of the inquirer's impartial view on news. They only report what they find and have no company loyalties. Charlie for instance was not at all paid by AMD for his reports and doesn't have AMD ads all over his site and Nick Farrell writes a lot of other news on fudzilla. He just has freedom on the inquirer to be more honest and truthful and his wife wasn't at all seduced by an Apple employee at Mac Expo in 1998. Give the guy a break his news is so unbiased and truthful he deserves some credit for having the balls to be honest.
Yours,
Nick Farrell. oopps I mean Bob Smith from Newcastle.
You're just like me Nick, its not the Apple hardware and software you hate, its Apple business ethics, their lunatic, blind ass fanbase and thh press that has it's head so far up Job's ass I'm surprised they can see to write those stories.
I just installed a 90 day trial of Windows 7 Enterprise, a RTM (Release To Manufacturing, or Retail) version to evaluate how if differs from the RC version.
It didn't seem much different compared to the difference between the Vista RC and the final Vista retail version, which had bug fixes.
The desktop background of a beta fish is replaced with a windows logo.
Looks like another vista. Most of the visual effects have been done long ago in Linux with compiz. Too bad Micro$oft doesn't focus on getting the system more secure and stop selling this virus/malware magnet. I'm not impressed...
Ultimately, I hate both Microsoft and Apple for different reasons. They're both big companies that often don't play nice with consumers. I'll stick with Linux for my productivity.
I couldnt agree more!!!! Australian media from the respected Age, to the Herald Sun and Australian have all become pro apple. Even TV media! Also for some reason Sony has managed to get print and tv media on their side too, and everything is ps3 biased. Sometimes the age puts out a computer game review magazine pull out...and guess what...over 50% of the games reviewed are for ps3!!!
I agree with misunderstood we are here to talk about Windows 7 and not rubbish Mac. I have the RC and have been trying to find out if the release version is exactly the same. But i find arguments about the best OS. Even on the sites that are only windows related i find more Mac users than windows. When they release the new Mac system i was interested but i didn’t see this disgraceful show then. Hey guys Mac just released some new computers have a look they are quite good, go have a look.
By the way 12 month’s use of the RC with no crashes and no viruses when using Microsoft Security Centre. Plus the system is super fast.
Can anyone tell me if they got rid of the Betta Fish
The criticism isn't of Apple, more of uneducated journalists in the mainstream press making sweeping statements about technology when they should really stick to reporting about MPs' expenses or kids flying off in hot air balloons.
There's a corker on the BBC's site, from their business editor no less: Windows Vista was "difficult to install"
He must have have been referring to retards surely.
I am a mac user, a mac fan, but not a crazy or blind fan, I love tech news related to computers, I've been reading this site which I consider important and serious for a couple of years now. But lately I noticed that you lost it, I mean I want to know everything about computers and related issues, but this couple of months (with snow leopard out there and 7 about to come out to the market) the attacks or topics related to apple and it's products have being or too aggressive, or missing the importance of some relevant related information, or lacking objectiveness. I mean, I respect windows and it's dominance, I know how difficult should be for those people who have to create a system that works in an environment soo open to unlimited configurations, for that and soo much behind that I respect them. Now Apple is doing a lot to, and some god there must be in there with so many things that are gaining ground, so why criticizing. Now, as a media of information, that this site is, all related news to computers should be important, and as a serious and relevant site that this is, you should keep objective (not taking sides), so that we all readers can happily stay informed by you. Thanks
While Apple behaves in every aspect worse than Microsoft, it is able to still get support from it's fanboys and upkeep a positive image. Apple has the most closed platform and puts you in a very tight cage, where it defines what you can do and what not, it can even take your bed out from your cell if it wants too. Microsoft never did that, and it knows exactly why: Business would never ever accept that. You may invest on a platform, but what you afterwards do on that platform is up to you. That is the main reason why you never ever will find Apple products on a big scale in business (except hippie shops).
It's OK to be anti-Windows 7. The Windows monopoly controls over 90% of desktops. We should be kind to the Apple fans that use OS X and are doing something different to the 90% crowd.
Yes, Nick, I know you don't like the DRM and app-store restrictions of the iPhone. But most analysts predict that Google's Android will soon overtake the iPhone anyway.
At least Apple created something new from what others had done before. Windows 7 may have reached the competent OS level, but there's nothing revolutionary about it.
While Microsoft failed in the phone world, it's desktop monopoly remains as strong as ever. We don't all have to like Windows 7. Let the OS X fans be free, and Google will fix the iPhone for you.
Bulletproof, NOT so. ANY 690 thru 420 chipset can be force feed -=7=- & RUN Pefectly, Once its brought UP to Snuff.

I automatically assume that everyone will recognise that I do not know my onions.
In the words of some yank:

Don't go changing, to try and please me,

Don't go trying, some new fashion,
Although I might not seem to care.
I want clever, conversation,
I never want to work that hard,
I want you just the way you are. "

Serious, it's at least as good as Windows XP, a little better in performance and GUI so long as you have enough RAM to run it.
Of course, Windows XP was released in 2001.
