The moral is that if you use a PC to commit a crime in another location to try and escape punishment, you are going to prison. That's the moral and the way it should be. Hiding behind a PC isn't a free pass to be a criminal.
McKinnon was physically located in the UK at the time of him hacking a bunch of servers located in the USA. Somewhat analogous to an English chap standing on the sands shooting across the channel at the French mainland and killing some poor bugger farting back in his general direction :)'
Seriously, where was the actual crime committed and has this been asked and answered in court ?
It seems obvious that the Americans have been seriously embarrassed by this hack and want their piece of flesh regardless that McKinnon could have, and probably should have been tried and convicted in the UK.
Guess the moral of this story is hide in a cave cause you might embarrass someone, somewhere in this world and pay a very steep price.
He broke the law. He admitted it. He should have his day in court. Do it and let's get it over with. If he had been in the US, it would have been over by now and he'd be back on the streets. Stop your whining.
Bang on OldTimer!!
The Yanks stuffed his pockets with $$$$$$$$ on the pretence of doing the lecture circuit of America.
Examine everything about Bush snr & Thatcher & you will get a sense of De Je Vue with Bush jnr & Blair, right down to the Congressional Medal of (Dis)Honour awarded to them both.
Back on topic & my message to,'Yeah,Right' above is; if the US has 'irrefutable proof'against McKinnon-why not test it in the English Courts?
The U.K. should have an equal (i.e. same rules apply to both sides) extradition treaty with the U.S., because it really should have been that way all along. I also see no problem with making a new treaty retroactive with the consent of both countries. The issue I have is how can the U.K. be trusted with a new treaty if it will not live up to its current one? If anytime the U.K. runs into an extradition problem they throw away their treaty then why would a treaty partner be expected to live up to their own obligations? The proper things would be for the U.K. to fully live up to its current treaty obligations and make McKinnon's return/release to the U.K. part of the negotiations for the new treaty.
If you don't know the difference between a crime - hacking into computers, vs. storing data on a PC, then you certainly aren't qualified to comment on extradition of McKinnon or the treaty between the U.K. and U.S.A. Mckinnon is an embarrassement to the U.K. and should be prosecuted by the U.S.A. like any other criminal.
When Gary McKinnon tried to discover the truth for people about UFOs by hacking into 97 military and NASA computers he is going to be prosecuted, but when the USA agencies tried to hide the same truth on "97 military and NASA computers" from people they are considered innocent.
Where is the logic for justice system?
Hundreds of people saw AFOs(Aliens Flying Object) in the night sky under my guidance in New York and New Jersey, including 5 PA MUFON UFO field investigators, chief investigator Butch Witkowski, Jonh Ventre (director of PA MUFON), well-known Ufologists, etc - at UFO conference (Montgomery county community College on 10/09/2009), the way how I described them in article "Aliens live in our Earth's atmosphere"
He should be given a medal, not a prison sentence. Yes, what he did was wrong, but he is a UFO hunting nut job, if he could hack into all of those servers then Terrorists, or foreign govenments could also do that.
He exposed serious weaknesses within their totally useless security; e.g. non-password protected PC's.
When its a UFO hunting nutter its worth a lifetime behind bars in a foreign land, but companies actually get paid to do this as a security test - they failed, they need better hackers, I see a job opening for McKinnon
Remember: Nutter + UFO Secrets + working Alone + not denying hacking + identifying serious security holes = pat on back.
Nutter + detailed plans for the inside of a nuclear power station + being part of a terrorist organisation + running, hiding and denying everything = bastard who should be behing bars in solitary until he kicks the bucket.

We live in a world where a hacker exposing the sinister truth is bein sent to jail...yet a world where a fuckin child molester is worshipped...even after his death..Im ashamed to be human these days you make me fuckin sick . Ignroant..narrow minded idiots !!
Criminal ??? WTF are you talkin about you smack head ?? Do you realise what kind of information he found ? What gives the fuckin US or even the UK or any Government the right to keep secrets from us..especially when its to do with FREE energy etc ...I'll tell you....MONEY...POWER..Its time we stopped acceptin these Governments as godly or lawfull...He only exposes the TRUTH...you see that....TRUTH...yeah it hurts . Criminal my ars its the Governments who are criminal n its about high fuckin time we took this planet back .
Since the U.S. has inrefutable proof that McKinnon hacked the military PCs and he's admitted the same, changing the treaty should have no bearing what so ever on extraditing this criminal for prosecution.

To answer your question:
You prosecute the criminal(s) where they committed the crime and that was in the U.S. not the U.K.

And have the Americans donate him a UFO T-shirt.
Extradition, shame on you.

Blair who signed it wanted to ensure the Americans gave him rich pickings on the after dinner circuit.
That man is a leech and a war criminal. Unbelievably 36% of people asked in a recent poll want him as EU President.

RoggenWolfe - You are not alone, but alas it seems the number of open-minded people seeking the truth AND willing to fight for it dwindles.
Comments like yours remind us that we are not alone and to keep fighting though.
The UK entered into such a one sided extradition treaty with a foreign power?

he would've been put to trial, sent to a cell for erotic displeasures, and probably bailed out by redcross already.
What a piece of double-standard cockshit country I live in. I'm atheist so there's no need to start a flame war below.
