and who's fault is that?

and who's fault is that? back when AMD introduced the k7 and proved that it could compeat with intel, intel clampt down on the OEM's. keeping AMD out of this lucerative and stable market. that togheter with general fear about intel being too powerfull kept investers away from AMD made almost impossible for them to secure enough funding. this is the main reason that their 2de factory took so long to get off the ground. the strength of the k7 should have been enough to make it happen in a fair market but it didn't
so in the end even with a fine, intel allready got what it wanted.

with this new deal with globalfoundries thou, that intel forced AMD into, they might have created even bigger potential problems for themselfs

Duh

Intel is pissed because they weren't given the standard US type of ruling - where they pay a huge fine but don't have to admit to any guilt. Some habits are hard to break, but what is the alternative? Come clean and admit what they did was wrong, and a mistake? Shirley will never happen from Intel.

The horse-shit company attitude of Intel has kept me away since the days of the 386, which was my last Intel CPU. Since then have done Cyrix, AMD, AMD, and more AMD.

Maybe if Otellini threatens the EU that he will stomp his foot and hold his breath until they change the ruling, he will get his way.

@ AMD RE: Fanboy

I'm with you 100% on that... I stopped using intel's craptastic products the day the Athlon dropped. I've been intel free since 1999. intel may as well not even exist.

everyone in my world uses AMD, and they're happier for it. i've migrated all of my customers to AMD as well. I recently dropped a fairly large customer because they insisted on using intel products in equipment they were ordering from me, i refused, telling them they were free to us intel all they like but the products would be coming from me, at first they did what any business would do, they said fine and took their business else where... two months later they came back, unhappy with the proposals they received from other consultants. i giggled at them as i built their 4 Opteron based servers and 20 Phenom II workstations.

My point being, i hate intel so much i will turn away business before i use their shit laden products.

You wouldnt hand cash to a known junkie, or let a convicted child molester babysit your children, so why in the world would you buy products from a known abusive company and convicted monopolist?

Alleged?

Alleged anti-competitive practices?

There is nothing alleged about it, the evidence speaks for itself, Intel has been found guilty in EU, Japan and Korea. Main reason why Intel is appealing the EU ruling is because if they don't it's as good as admitting they are guilty, as long as they keep denying any wrong doing they can keep investors and customers from believing the truth and running away.

I really don't see why Intel was so worried about AMD though, sure AMD had the better price/performance products but AMD didn't have the fab capacity to really make enough chips to do any real serious damage to Intel's market share. For Intel to do what they did just shows what a bunch of greedy bastards they really are, and all the people involved in the illegal activities should get some jail time, maybe then these sort of people would wake up and play fair!

fanboy

That is precisely why I only build AMD systems, for me, my inlaws and everybody who asks for it. NEVER , I say again NEVER will I buy Intel unless there is no other choice. Long live AMD so we have the choice.
Oh and I love my 780G chipset, nice graphics Intel cant even dream to achieve ever.

Not "Charges" - "Guilty Ruling"

I must point out that at this stage of the game, Intel vs. the EC is well past the "charges" stage. Intel has already been charged, was given a full and fair defense, and ultimately was found guilty by European antitrust regulators of breaking the law and harming consumers.

And as you, me and the rest of the world saw in startling detail on Monday, the EC has now published a large amount of evidence; evidence which ultimately led to Intel's conviction; the third straight conviction against Intel by a third straight independent regulatory agency (Japan and Korea preceded Europe).

And please keep in-mind that there are two live antitrust investigations underway against Intel in the US - one by the US FTC and the other by the New York State Attorney General's office.

And AMD's civil antitrust suit against Intel is six months away.

Thank you for your time and interest in this subject, which affects everyone in the world touched by IT.

Otellini is scum

Otellini is just another two-bit arse wipe trying to lie his way out of a prison term which IMO he deserves. You can bet your arse if these CEO's who violate anti-trust laws were given twenty year prison sentences as they deserve, they wouldn't be orchestrating any more crime-for-profit schemes.

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
