Yep, Rhino Rules!
tried version 1.1 and never looked back to acad. yep acad did and is doing the job for many, but new generation is not impressed with it anymore greed greed greed is the thing that is driving adesk but what we can do, select another product. every place i visit I just show my work the ACAD is in most cases history (i have to admit, not in the big companies, that have a lot of near retirement folks) and so on plus Solidwork there is nothing i cannot design/present ...

Not bothered about 3d, has it solved some of the 2d annoyances?
I've used quite a bit of autocad and microstation for 2d work and I must say that there are some areas where microstation completely wipes the floor with autocad. The ability to always add references based on world coordinates no matter what angle you are viewing the drawing from is one major major benefit. Also the ability to transform an object(s) based on an arbitrary selected origin is very handy too and saves numerous extra construction lines. Layer (or Levels as microstation calls it) is also less obtuse. Granted, hatching is marginally bette. In autocad, but then it is let down by less acurately showing you how line weights are likely to print. As a result, drawings tend to be much better and clearer drawn in microstation
In 1964 Mr. Larsen from GEMCO Mfg came over with part that took from my slide & triangulated rule sketch, it took 3 hours to have plastic mold part ready.
It wasn't simple part & had something to do with American Honda Motor 50cc automatic transmission mini bike, That was in LAB build.
Simple spray on plastic ink from ink jet made part. Now can see parts ALL over with similarly refined quality, in Fact entire qulity of Manufacturer has changed significantly. you can design device in Portland & have it made in Mn'Apolis within hour.
Looked over 5870 specs & see its improvement is in most intense useage & CAD/CAM is intense. perhaps, & lets face it 5870 is No workstation card, yet if you have very intnese computing, beating gtx 295 by 50% is something too, at least cost is much less.

Guys you should try rhino developed by a guy who left autocad because it was a slave to it commandline based users and people who hate change.
Do use a drafting tool to make 3d object, use a program that was design for the task from the outset.
U need to stop picking a tool and trying to elevate it to the point where you can do everything.....
