i just got one of these laptops... in fact im on it right now, but anyways about the article, the backlit keyboard can be disabled contrary to what the article says but if you read other reviews you will find that the hard drive has crashed alot on other people and they have had to return it. the processor is the only real bad thing about it and i wish it had a dual core, i thought it did when i bought it the touch pad really isnt that bad to use in my opinion but about 5 minutes ago it just stopped working, ive had this laptop for about a month.... thank god i have a warrenty. just my opinion and a word to the wise
allan, don't bother waiting for Linux based systems from large OEMs who have strong agreements with Microsoft...Any alternative solution is always put down, set aside, or deliberately neglected/shelved in some way.
Haven't you noticed the netbooks pre-installed with Linux tend to mostly suck ass? (People install their own flavour of Linux; in a way they want it.)
The only way to see properly configured Linux solutions (for a wider audience) is to look for small hardware sellers that specifically focus on Linux based systems from the start. eg: System76 in USA.
I tend to ignore big name OEMs and approach systems from a DIY perspective. Buy what I need; ignore what I don't.
I do not know why you guys write about what Asus plans to come out with. In Marts they said they would come out with the Asus K70AB with Ati4860 and Linux (some time late June) neither have seen the light of day. I do not even read stuff about Asus plans any more...

We all want seamless HD from the next netbook!
I ran some benchmarks on the ASUS 1005HA which should indicate what the ASUS UX50 can do and give more detail in this review: http://tiny.cc/Nu83h
