They may be using PureDepth's multi layer technology where you stack a couple of LCD screens with a special filter between them to eliminate moray interference patterns.
I understand a few far east companies have licensed the technology. It supposedly works way better than the old Philips method which was actually pretty cool if you sat in the sweet spot and didn't move your head around much... The PureDepth screens are being used in slot machines but I haven't actually seen one yet.
All I can tell from this is that it is very gimmicky. I can already imagine it cuts off the sides so that you can do this, so what does it actually provide other than another gimmick for the brainless to spend their money on and never use again.
thanks for clearing that up... i thought it was actually panning and angling around the video as if the video were shot with ton of cameras and they hooked up some kind of vr technology up to move around... damn near impossible to produce right now.
Nice idea you had their, tho it wouldn't work very well as you'de have to keep blinking each eye alternatly as you rotate the device.
What the system actually does (from what I gather) is build on the old technology used in the 3D cereal box toys that used weird prism glass stuff to refract light from different image sources in different directions. The idea being one image source goes in one direction towards your left eye, and the other image into your right eye - giving you steroscopic imaging. Unfortunatly you have to be at the right distance and if you move your head it will mess up. But in general this is a good technical advancement as when it matures to a stage where 24-30fps is possible and the screen can be manufactured to be much bigger, then you could have a 3D television in your living room ready for when Sky and such start broadcasting their 3D channels - which is already in the pipeline ;)
But yes, the prototype its self is a bit gay... who would want to have to lug around 12fps poor quality 3D in the palm of their hand?! Especially if it means everything else you do on that device will look blurry and weird.
Is it stereoscopic 3D or some kind of hyper quicktime VR type crap hooked up to the accelerometer? If its stereoscopic, my bad- thought i was looking at something else.
because the guy in the video says so? look at the video, what the hell is that, some croatian soap opera? c'mon, this is a gimmick people to try to drum up some kind of excitement over some crappy tech.
ummm, 12fps, terrible compression, maybe 5 degrees of movement, 3x2 aspect.... not good
really, the only user case for this kind of technology is real-time 3D which this device will have a hard time rendering. no movie studio in the world (except porn) will want to make film content like this.
How can you tell that it's "pretty bad"? It wasn't recorded with a 3d camera and it's very unlikely that you even have a 3d screen. So for all we know, it's pretty good.

this is using some kind of lenticular thing.

It's still dumb.
There are lots of films currently being shown at the cinema in 3D!
What are you talking about Dave... Please don't do that... Dave... What are you doing... Dave...
:p

I can see now why HAL wanted to throw you out the air lock....
Did you even bother to view the whole video? Major movie studios are ALREADY producing content which this phone can show you in 3d.
