I went through that period when I was playing online games every day, deep into the night. Any adult person who's spending their life doing this has got issues way beyond being fat or depressed.

gamers may be choosing gaming because they are not inclined to physical activity for entertainment, it doesnt mean that gaming makes you fat

when i was a child i noticed some children were outgoing and some were shy. the shy were dear people but imho more likely to be fat as they tended to comfort eat and didnt get as much exercise. maybe the shy people are predisposed to find forms of entertainment that minimise confrontation and so choose gaming more than the extroverts, todays world is massively more populous than in preceding times, the shy are neglected and the brash destroy each other with games of a different nature.

in any case gaming cannot make you fat, its stuffing your face with stuffed crust pizza and stuff that stuffs your figure up, in a world of plenty you have to take responsibility for your body weight if you want to avoid becoming obescene, if not by exercise then by calory restriction, its human nature to over eat and you have to make an act of will to stay healthy, shy or not QED

i play xbox like every once a while with my teenage guy friends and whenever we run into an adult gamer we love to mess with them they start like screaming its halarious there like 40 years old they have no life

Yes...all of us here in America are fat, depressed and prone to constant illness. We live in a nightmare world of excess and dream of one day escaping to any other country because, as all of us in this living hell are fully aware, every other country in the world is a utopia with slender, beautiful, healthy, intelligent and compassionate people who will welcome us with open arms. We long for the perfect world you live in, but we're just too damn lazy ( and/or sick ) to act on our dreams. Please...get the warning out and tell the many, many immigrants (about 960000 per year on average) flooding our country of the dangers that await them. Seriously. Please tell them. You would be doing all of us ( Did I say us? How silly of me! I meant "them"...) a huge favor.

@Defunct, Body Mass Index i all BS it dates back to the 19th century and was never intended to determine ones health, while being appropriate for population studies it is inappropriate for individual diagnosis.

I probably read it wrong, but this implies that somehow you can't be eating healthily unless you are a vegetarian, whereas in reality if you are a vegeatarian its far more difficult to get a balanced diet and requires a lot more care and attention to what you eat.

I'd also like to disagree with this statement. I like playing games, but I have a BMI of 21. This is smack dab in the middle of healthy territory. I like going for walks in the woods with my dogs, and I'm a vegetarian. I eat very healthy. So two out of three isn't all that bad!

Im an adult gamer but im not fat. im 55 and fit, no i dont have a wee, i do physical exercise and then mental exercise on the pc like gaming to keep my brain sharp.

Americans are in general FAT and with depression and this has nothing to do with games. This research is only half-true.

By the way watching TV all day is worse from playing games all day in my opinion.

This is in comparison to those people. So, gamers are even fatter, sadder, and sicker than the rest of America's fat, sad, and sick population. The older is presumably in comparison to the previous mean age of adult gamers...no surprises there. Eventually it's going to stabilize at the mean age of all living people.

The entire US population tend to be overweight, inclined to depression and illness and, well, are getting older.
