Even though it's getting more difficult by the year to get a hold of fake goods in China (most of our knock offs are now being imported from Korea and Xinjiang), it's been far too long for the Iphone to do well here. The market is far too saturated with unlocked Iphones, knockoffs, upgraded knockoffs, and copycats. Expanding the market into China after giving us the short end of the stick for this long seems like a recipe for failure.
@Patrick. As far as I'm concerned, proper nouns begin with capital letters, regardless of the maker's inability to conform to the rules of the English language. You on the other hand, need to go back to primary school and learn the difference between "your" and "you're".
"[China's] residents have heretofore been unable to get their hands on the real deal."
The writer of this drivel needs to get out more. Even in central China, well away from the huge commerce centres, I've been able to get my hands on real (not knock-off) iPhones within weeks of their release.
"Yesterday, Chinese mobile provider China Unicom was reported to have purchased five million iPhones from Apple and would launch the überpopular smartphone in September. But today, the company denied that such a deal has been made.
"The report is not true," China Unicom spokesman Yi Difei told the Associated Press."
You have a Iphone in china?...Man your behind the times. I have friends who live there and they get better phone than an Iphone there. Wish I lived there to get the newest phone from korea and japan. The states sucks cause everybody hear claim a iphone is the best when it picture quality sucks, less option and crappy 3G.
It honestly doesn't matter whether or not China unicom gets with the picture, I can go to any major shopping center and buy a genuine iPhone that works flawlessly with my MacBook Pro here in Guangzhou China, and my friends in smaller cities report the same thing. This has been the case since around the time the original iPhone was released. So the question really becomes: who gives a crap what China Unicom sell when they let me use my 3G without problems?

Unicome executives came out today, said the reports are false.
