I know there's a few places out there selling them, but if you are incapable of searching Google Shopping for WD10TEVT, then you deserve to be ripped off :D

I don't think the fact this drive is thicker then the average laptop drive is gonna hurt it's sales much. I say this for one simple reason, people don't really buy laptop drives. Seriously before the PS3 got released you'd probably see maybe one or two laptop drives sell a month at any given retail location.

That the real question if you ask me is if these will fit in a PS3? As far as laptop's go the only time that size drive wouldn't be excessing are 17" and 19" media center/gaming models which can probably already take a drive that large due to their larger case designs or will be redesigned to handle them by the end of the month.

Well I don't mind about that as I have a beast of a VAIO laptop which already has one of these mega-HD's in (a 12.5mm Fujitsu 500Gb HD).
I just can't find anywhere that's selling it at the moment!

I've read at Fudzilla that this thing is 12mm thick. Now what good is that for most laptops? Still, you can't bash WD; they're the first to market, anyway.

2.5-inch HDDs standardly have 2 platters. This drive has 3, which is why it is thicker. The form factor is also 12.5mm, not 12mm.

In the press release, WD said the drives were aimed at external use and "select notebooks and small form factor desktop PCs, where quiet and cool operation are important."

"Seagate is still playing catch-up in this space, offering currently a 640GB 2.5-inch HDD at 300GB per platter."

So, 3x 300GB platters with 260GB not being used?

It seems strange that they wouldn't offer a 900GB laptop hard drive if that was the case.

After months waiting for a 1Tb HD for my VAIO, I went and bought a 500Gb WD Blue just last week!

Now they go and announce exactly what I'm looking for :( pain in the backside, I tell ya! lol.

It should be pointed out that this drive is 12mm thick - thicker than the 9.5mm drives accepted by most laptops (including Apple's MacBook range).
