@Jason, I am very interested in what you said as I am planing to buy a Magic. Do you have full flash support on the Magic now? Could you help me with that? Is there a tutorial to do it?
I've got a magic, but it's already rooted, hacked, and running the Hero Sense UI. Anything the Hero can do, the Magic is capable of since the hardware is nearly identical.
It comes down to whether you care so much about a 3.5mm jack and 5mp camera.
I've got a Magic, and I must say I'm really pleased with it. Seeing how there are so many Android handsets set to come out over the next year or so I might look into upgrading after my 18 months are up.
I wonder if the HTC Magic will get any of these widgets? They're not Android core, but the phone is by the same company.
I live contentedly 2 hours from a major metropolitan center and although only 3 miles from a cell tower my LG Muziq struggles to get a signal here. My old Krazr had no problems and the Samsung Omnia I recently demoed almost never had signal. In fact the the Omnia was searching for signal so much that the standby battery life was about 4 hours. I'll always try out a phone for a week before buying, and if it doesn't have good signal it'll go back.
i'm not one to rush in and grab the latest 'must have' gadget, I leave that for the sad people and then learn from their mistakes. That said, that HTC Hero (what a crap name) does seem a bit good. I'll be watching that :-)
(Quite what this has to do with the Jackson families choice in pathologist is beyond me, but i wish the best to 'thomasxstewart there', keep taking the tabs!)
I really can't understand how people can use phones without an integrated keyboard. I can't stand on screen typing - my finger tips must be too large so it is very slow for me. With that said, device manufacturers need to continue to decrease the thickness of the devices. I love the G1 - if they put one out with a slightly larger screen a thinner profile, I would upgrade to it in a heartbeat. However, removing the keyboard is a deal breaker for me.
@zelrik, You can find lots of information about the magic/sapphire/G2 at

You should be able to find all you need to root your phone and install the latest roms.
The current Hero build does indeed support Flash 10.
