Slang?

I'm pretty sure "akiba" is not pejorative, just a sometimes-used "cute" name in roman type.

Newegg Confirmed

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=40000727&Description=istanbul&name=Processors%20-%20Servers

O-2427 2.2 = $500
O-2431 2.4 = $700

Oh, well. I guess I could build a 12 core AMD render-box instead of an i7-975 machine for about the same price. Well, RAM and mobo may be a lil more... Nope, low-end 1207x2 board and RDDR2-800 are about the same as 1366x1 board and UDDR3.

Don't compare server CPUs to performance desktop CPUs

@Raven737: Istanbul is a server processor, and this one is destined for two socket servers and workstations.

Is that i7 destined for dual-socket machines, or single socket machines?

Quite expensive

~457 Euro for the 2.2 GHz Version. So 76 Euro / Core. The Intel i7 @ 2.67 GHz is cheaper at only 62.5 Euro / Core here in euroland.
But of course the 457 Euro is an Akhibara price. Regular street price in a few weeks will probably (hopefully) be a lot lower.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
