An acronym is a pronounceable first letter abbreviation of a word. Acronyms are things like "NICS" and "GNU." "CEO" is considered a TLA (three letter abbreviation). This distinction has been blurred over the years.
By the way, I had to check - you copied Wikipedia. You're so smart.
Acronyms and initialisms are abbreviations that are formed using the initial components in a phrase or name. These components may be individual letters (as in CEO) or parts of words (as in Benelux or Delmarva). There is no universal agreement on the precise definition of the various terms (see nomenclature), nor on written usage (see orthographic styling). While popular in recent English, such abbreviations have historical use in English as well as other languages. As a type of word formation process, acronyms and initialisms are viewed as a subtype of blending.
A couple of errors on the system, this will be corrected ASAP, the end date is 30th June, and correct terms and conditions are on http://www.computeractive.co.uk/competitions/dell_tc Note end date on here will be changed.

Try as I might, I couldn't come up with a nice combination of Inq and prostitution.
But here it is. Are you actively trying to get rid of your readers, Inq?
I wasted my time loading that page (I have dial-up, waiting on BPL), its only for UK residents, not for us in the US.
... so it's impossible to answer the question correctly.
Please email me and I'll send you my address for delivery of the laptop

If you trace the URL listed in the broken link, it says that the contest closed on 5 June 2009.
If you bother to look at the terms and conditions, you 'll see that the competition closing date WAS 5th of June.
