Anyone get the strange feeling vista was/is nothing more than a huge beta for windows 7?

Both very similar os's in many ways, yet 7 is a vast improvement. Polish much?

no version of windows is 'good' they are just "necessary evils" because you need the accursed o/s to run your software: be it games/corporate/business/education.

the viable alternatives are too few atm.

Microsoft has been bullying the whole world for years with pricing, limiting availability of XP, always pushing proprietary protocols and actively preventing interoperability. The only comparison is the Oil Cartels.

We all know oil is on the way out - don't know how long it will take but it will happen. The same should happen to Microsoft - the alternatives are getting stronger every day.

If the Russians want back some of the money Microsoft has sucked from their country then good on them - Microsoft deserves everything it gets.

Perhaps MS has simply failed to pay off the right oficials.

Or, like everyone else in the world, the Russkis are pissed off that when you order XP you pay more and get Vista pre-installed. Then have to waste an hour or so removing Vista before you can use your hardware.

Ostensibly, they plan to investigate Microsoft charging different prices to different retailers and for allegedly different versions at various price levels when in fact they are virtually identical.

Whatever, if it's Microsoft you know they deserve it.

Get over it! XP is on it's way out the door... You can't hardly find a new system that comes with it reinstalled anymore.
Yes. Vista blows chunks, But 7 is almost here and from what I'm seeing is a vast improvement over it's predecessors, XP included.

Sooo... Wait for it, or buy your new machine now install the Win7-rc on it and enjoy.
