Nonesense

We hold freedom of press and flow of information dear to our hearts here in good ol'Deutschland. More than most name-brand "free nations" of the world. The Wikileaks site is available.

After all, if not the inventor of, we helped to dramatically improve censorship in the 30's.

No one wants to go there again.

the net is dead. Long live the net.

A note to previous commenters... the internet can't resonably be blocked by country A, B or C; even if German police shut down a local domain, you could still access it if it's an intenational organisation (depending on how they're set up and most follow that logic).

PS: if you don't like my personal spellling or grammmer go eat urself.

Quite a different story

Well, Nick, your Fatherland story is just not true. It was reported widely about one month ago, but actually Wikileaks was not shut down. There was a house search, which is bad enough, but the domain itself was not shut down. Actually there seems to have been some glitch with the Wikileaks people changing domain registrars and for a short time everybody believed it was shut down.

The real motivation

"The list showed that far from censoring kiddie porn sites, the list also included many TAME SITES that were OPPOSED TO AUSSIE GOVERNMENT POLICY."

And so there is finally proof of what we all already knew. These kinds of draconian measures (be they censorship or surveillance) are never about the benefit of the citizen, it's about control by the state for their own nefarious ends.

What better way to silence all online dissent than to simply make such sites disappear without anyone ever knowing.

I don't understand why the Australian government aren't being given a bloody good kicking over this despicable and deceitful behaviour.

Not Abby

Abby Winters uses true fury mature women.

No "prepubescent looking" shaved minges here

Must have been a politicians wife or daughter on the site to get it on the BANNED list

INQ Poll

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
