anybody remember when ATT/Bellsouth DSL went down?
when was that? it was hours before they fixed it.
Like, what? outages don't happen?
When was the last time power went out in your neighborhood?
I think we got spoiled and now we expect 100% uptime from Google.
We use Gmail for our business and we have a much bigger problem with At&t's SLOW Fast Access DSL than with Gmail being down for an hour...
It is freaking 1 hour already here in FL, at 5:18 EST!
Yeah - it fits the requirement (for now) - but I NEVER had email down neither with MS Exchange not Lunix solutions for more then few seconds! This suppose to be a distributed system
How often is Gmail down?
They provide such an excellent service compared to the other free emailer providers that 1hr downtime is hardly something to complain about.
Hotmail doesn't filter spam as well as gmail and it's far more annoying deleting spam every day than not being able to access it once in a year.
Funny that a guy running cloud services recommends using cloud services?
And oh? gmail is as far as I am aware a cloud service.
When will these idiots stop spinning cloud as a new technology, it isn't.
It's decade old technology with a new spin on it, that costs more.
GMail's 99.9999998% uptime is unacceptable - only 99.9999999% uptime should be considered "reliable". Conveniently, you can obtain these services from ThinkGrid.
Why is there such a fuss about a free beta product going under. It definitly shouldn't be used for a business environment, and normal users shouldn't complain because its free.
It's just the usual taking for granted that people do.
Sean has a good point. Even companies that have their own email servers have trouble sometimes. The email at my company doesn't go down often, but it is definitely more often than Gmail, and is generally out longer than an hour when it does go down.
Business managers get frustrated when there isn't anybody to call and say "Get this working!". They need to stop and realize that Gmail is unavailable less often, and comes back up quicker than their own services would even without them getting involved. Just because they can't control Gmail doesn't make it more risky.
We use Microsoft Exchange at my job. I access my email via Outlook Web Access. OWA is slow, has poor usability and is often unavailable due to software patches. I contrast this to gmail, which is blindingly fast, far easier to use, has tons of additional features, (with gears) goes offline without a bloated client, and is occasionally unavailable. Oh yeah, it's free. I don't see the problem.
7 Has NEW Featured Requirement. You Cann't USE 7 On Less than ip6.
7 Supports ipv.4, if thats Single option. Yet, What GooGle experience IS OLD Equipment. If End Load Was ip6 Compliant, That could of Been Staved Off for months or even Years, ipv.6 IS That PowerFul ST drashek

Has this issue been fixed? Gmail has been down for me for 24 hours now...

Malcolm is correct, gmail's backbone is a cloud service. And I agree 100%, all this talk of cloud computing is PR trash for old technology.

My span has been down by 90% for 2 days now. Hack attacks gone. Have other seen the same? Does Gmail have a bigger problem?

... at the price. Besides, it would be a very sad comment on life if I could not live without email for a couple of hours.
I see Same. If equipemtn is OLD then you can Never do ipv6 connections without 7 unless cofiguNerd Right!
...drashek, get your english right, please! you crazy man =)
Who on earth would use a product with 'beta' written next to it in a business environment?

Could've been one of those massive "your account has been terminated due to TOS violation" waves.
In times of crisis or hangover all we need is a nice hot cuppa. I'll 'ave an Earl if you don't mind.
