I am not buying an LCD, that is final.

LCDs are crap for gaming and also make crap TVs. Crap jaggy images, crap colour, crap refresh rates, crap 32ms lag and crap response time & trails.

Sony are maximising returns on existing LCD investment, eg joint venture with sharp last year in 10th gen LCD fab. OK I respect their right to do this but I am never buying one so they just delay the income from my purchase.

I guess they dont mind stepping back from the line in the sand if it takes the wind out of Samsung's sails.

Secretly I bet they are working furiously on future products. But unless OLED can beat a good CRT I am wont be interested in that either. Hype is no good to me.

A Fool....

My old university professor once told us, as we waffled-on about the wonders of new technology:
"A fool with a tool is 'still' a fool"
Next question is, who allowed Drashek to sign up to the Internet?

Good information

I am very like the last sentence "Sony could make a good one if it put its mind to it." That is right , every people can do many things if he put his mind on it!
ok, here I have another good share , that is :

Naive techocentricity

That's what you get for taking technological breakthroughs as an assumption.

Sony wont be the first

The fact that Sony produced one of these TVs and then stopped still doesn't mean that the progression of technology is dead. Most of the stock market believes that tech companies will never make any money. There was an article posting saying that since the tech bubble burst look what "amazing things" they have done?

Point is that just because Sony of all people stopped such a project doesnt mean that soon we will have paper thin displays that can be rolled up into a pen sized device!

IS Director

@Quanta:
What is behind Ike's Tomb? I grew up there, well for awhile, and all I remember was a few rows of solar panels. Well I thought they were solar panels. This was the 80s, so probably likely they were just warming water. Or maybe they used them to power a couple of light bulbs. Come to think of it, the Museum only had 5 lights on at any given time (now the Tomb was lit up like Madonna's dressing room), so maybe the whole place was powered off those panels. I do not honestly remember the Library. The Grey Hound Museum just looked neater.

As for OLEDs, well my 17" TV might be a perfect place for them.

Bunch o'Tricity Reply....

Remember God Zilla Grabbing Out For Bunch of Fruitee' Bannanas,& turned out to be Power Line. zzzzzzz fizzle. Bunch is quanta or in effect, amperage Level.

Heres something neater. Out Here in Abiliene, Kansas, in back of Dwight D Eisenhowers farm (& Library) is HQ of George Washington Parkers' Circus. Its off road, No Easement. AS Circus is Taxed By Catholics Like Hatered towards Rainbow. So Equipment is designed, built, tester, used, maintained & stored there. PRIVATELY. Completely Protected by Eisenhower Property in Front of it, that being along roadside.

Its Secetive Business. & amount of power OLED is unknown to myself, except colours are more hullucigenic & more rad like power being developed in screen to make such, like Plasma. Hot is Hot & Hot Takes More Power, Whole Bunch More. drashek

Fear Not...

OLED IS still the future of TV.. I think as stated below the recession is playing into this.

It makes sense to me anyways. You'll do big volume on Mobile phones all the while perfecting the manufacturing process on a higher yield form factor (becaues the output screen dimensions are so small)

Mr

They have developed or been shown something much more viable and will develop that and show that off in a year or so.
They would not have changed their mind so much unless something caught their eye. Yes Sony and harsh times will be a factor but not even putting it on hold must mean they see something much more viable / cheaper / better then OLED TV's

OLED Have BRIGHTNESS of SUN.

OLED Might Take Hefty Bunch Of Electrcity, yet could Make Viewing Much More plausable in Bright SunShine.

What Most Articles Where Espounseing, Was CARBON NANOTUBE Tv from SAMSUNG or N.Korea. Picked Up By JUMBOTRON,& Now Out of Home ?market. George Washington Parkers' Circus

I thought OLED was the future of TV?

I've lost count of the amount of articles and TV pieces I've seen that suggest that OLED would be the successor to LCD. Does this mean that OLED TV's are dead in the water or has Sony got this wrong?
